Roger and Gallet Fleur de Figuier review

Hey all,

I was sent a few items from Roger and  Gallet a week or two ago and I finally got around to review them all in the last few days. I haven't tried any Roger and Gallet products before (although I have sprayed a couple in the chemist but that's not the same really) I had a little sample size of the new Fleur de Figuier perfume, body lotion and shower gel as well as a full sized Creme sublime bois d'orange hand and nail cream to try out.

Out of the three Fleur de Figuier samples I tried, the shower cream was my favourite by far. The scent is more toned down than the perfume which is nice. It feels incredibly luxurious. It lathers up nicely and it feels so creamy. It's the creamiest shower gel I have tried which really surprised me. A full sized version of this would make a lovely gift for someone, especially if they are fond of the Fleur de Figuier scent in particular.

Next up is the Fleur de Figuier replenishing body lotion with 24 hour hydration. This was nice. Again it was not overly scented but it leaves a nice base for the perfume and makes the scent last longer. The lotion itself is on the thin side. Not watery, just thin. It sinks in fairly quickly. I can't say my skin was softer than before but the scent was really pleasant and it lasted well over 7 hours.

Last up for today is the Fleur de Figuier perfume. Initially when I sprayed it on I thought it was quite a woody scent. As time went on though the fruity notes started to emerge. It wasn't sickly sweet at all but it is a strong scent. Staying power wasn't bad. I put it on around 11 and I had to top it up again around 4. Just keep in mind the notes in a particular perfume may come across differently on you. It's all to do with your own body chemistry and such. I'd also recommend spraying it on your skin in the shop and then waiting a little while to see how it develops :) I found this one a bit too strong for me. I do suffer with travel sickness and this made it flare up a bit unfortunately :(

Get in the Cue

Hey all,

I used to play pool fairly often years ago but the tables were taken over by drunken idiots so I stopped going. I miss playing but what can you do really. Instead of playing I thought I'd do some pool nail art instead but it didn't turn out as I had envisioned. It would have been far easier with acrylic paint but sure no harm.

I have on 2 coats of Catrice Run Forest Run on each nail. On my index, ring and pinky finger I used Misa Bourbon on the rocks as a border, Barry M Nail art pen in white for the detailing, Nail the Bytch Lick or ish bytch for the red balls, Essence Black is back for the black ball and NYC Lexington Yellow for the yellow balls. I used a dotting tool to pop on the balls. I topped it off with a coat of Essence gel nails topcoat.

That's all there is to it! I hope ye all have a great weekend.

Pump, P..P..P..Pump it up

Hey all,

Pixy reformulated and repackaged their Aloe Rescue gel a while back and I was so excited to see the new Pump addition! Now you can control the amount of product you want and it is more hygienic  as you don't have to stick your hand into the tin to scoop up the gel.

The new formula now contains tea tree essential oil which has medicinal properties, stimulates cell skin cell growth and inhibits bacteria common to dry skin conditions. Lavender essential oil was also added into the mix and like the tea tree oil it too has medicinal properties. It also calms the skin which is essential after waxing.

After using this a few times I can safely say it is just as good, if not better than the original. The pump was a genius addition as it stops unnecessary loss of product  and it keeps it all nice and hygienic in the bottle. I love than the bottle is slimmer so I can pop it in my bag or in the car before heading off without taking up too much space or worrying about it leaking. I leave it in the fridge while waxing and then smooth it on straight after and you feel the relief immediately. I would not be without this product, especially when waxing or after being out in the sun (when we actually get some sun).

A bottle of Pixy Aloe Rescue gel costs €7.95 for 50ml of product.

Sure why not?

Hey all,

Finally a successful stamp! I bought the Born Pretty m65 stamping plate a couple of weeks back in a flash sale for $0.99. I really loved 3 of the 4 designs on this plate so it was well worth it. It was one of the easiest plates to work. The designs all come out perfectly a bar one.

I have on 2 coats of Sinful Color Why not. I used Catrice Sold out forever for the stamp. I am so pleased this actually worked for once :P

Twinsie Tuesday- Beach inspired

Hey all,

Today's post is a beach inspired design as part of the Twinsie Tuesday schedule. I'm not the biggest beach fan. It's grand like but it's been a good year or two since I've been down to it. When we have nice weather it's always packed to the gilders with people and I really don't like that at all so I just admire it from afar.

2 easy coats of Barry Blueberry Ice cream form the base. Then I dotted on some white seashells as the boundary of the half moon. For the sand I had to use Catrice Sand Francisco (sure how could you not like) A coat of Essence Gel look topcoat keeps it all nice and glossy.

Run Godfather Run

Hey all,

I have so many topcoat polishes but I rarely use half of them. I took out the Catrice Godfather of Pearl, from the LE Million Styles Collection, the last day and I thought I may as well put it to use! I decided that Catrice Run forest run would make a decent base to make the shimmers pop.

A blue base would have worked a bit better I think . I have on 2 coats of Run Forest Run and 1 coat of Catrice Godfather of Pearl. Overall I wasn't overly keen on the result. I like the shimmers and the way it glittered in the light but I don't think green was the ideal colour.

If ye have Catrice Godfather of Pearl, let me know some good combination that you have come up with. I know black is a good base but it is so boring sticking with black all of the time.

Essence Nail art protecting basecoat review

Hey all,

My battered bottle of Essence Nail art protecting base coat. I've had this since October 2012 and I don't think I have reviewed it for ye yet. I'm almost at the end of this bottle and I have to say it is one of my all time favourite basecoats. I got this for €2.49 in Penny's. This works well as a base for every type of nail polish from creme to shimmer, frost to hologaphic. It has a great formula which dries in under a minute and it applies beautifully. The brush is thin which I find works better with basecoats. I would definitely repurchase this if I could find it. It is far better than the Essence 24/7 nail base. I've worn it on its own and it made my nails look so much nicer.

Good:

  • Dries super quick
  • Protects against staining
  • Cheap as chips
  • Doesn't have a strong chemically smell to it
  • 10ml bottle lasts ages
Bad
  • You can't see how much product you have left in the bottle- It's driving me mental!
  • Seems to be a bit hard to come across in Ireland

Alison Claire Coconut lipbalm review

Hey all,

A new lipbalm review for ye today. Alison Claire sent me their coconut lipbalm about 2 weeks ago now and I think it's time to tell ye what I think of it. Alison Claire is an english skincare and hair brand. None of their products contain sulphates, parabens phenoxyethanol or PEG's. Basically zero filllers, synthetic scents, colours or harsh preservatives.

First off the smell is delicious. It's sweet but subtle. Even if you hate the smell of coconut you might like this. It has more of a vanilla scent to it rather than coconut. It felt a bit greasy for the first few uses but it is actually nice and creamy. You don't have to gouge out a load of product as a quick swipe of your finger gives just enough product.  I used this day and night and I noticed my lips were softer than normal and they didn't dry out or chap as often. I've gone through about a quarter of the tub now.

Good:

  • It smells so good!
  • Feels nice and creamy on the lips
  • Keeps lips soft and smooth for longer thanks to the cocoa butter and coconut oil
  • Uses natural ingrediants- always a plus for me
  • Includes Zinc oxide to protect against UV rays
Bad:
  • One of the pricier lipbalms - 10ml costs £4 not including shipping
  • Comes in a tub- not the most hygienic
  • The packaging could be a bit nicer in my opinion but that's only a minor thing

Trying to capture those hearts...

Hey all,

Seeing as I have run out of acrylic paint for nail art, I have been trying to get to grips with my dotting tools. I've come across so many amazing dotted design that I'd love to recreate. Today is just somethign that came out whilst practicing doing hearts with the dotters.

The base colour is 2 coats of Essence Iced Latte (it's a fair bit more nude in real life). To make up the hearts and the surrounding dots I picked out Catrice Genius in a bottle, another Chanel Peridot dupe. It was so hard to capture it. The duochrome effect in Genius in a bottle really knocked my camera off. I used Essence Gel look topcoat to keep it all together.

I really need to practice those hearts a bit more ...

Twinsie Tuesday- Textured nails

Hey all,

Today's Twinsie Tuesday post is Textured nails. I know a lot of people aren't fond of this trend but I have to say I love the ones I have. The colours are just so pretty and I think the textured effect brings something new to the nail polish scene. At least it stays on your nails longer than those fecking caviar/ bead things.

I didn't use a base with this design. I think the colours pop a bit more that way. I popped on a few stripes of striping tape. Then I carefully painted over each section.. Yellow- Barry M Station Road, Pink- Barry M Kingsland Road, Green- Barry M Ridley Road and Blue- Barry M Atlantic Road. I think all four colours go well together.

The Book Depository 25 hour Sale

Hey all,

I just got an email about the upcoming Book Depository promotion and it is brilliant. They often run these 25 hour events where they have a list of 100 books on offer. Every 15 minutes they will put a limited amount of each book on special price and when it's gone it's gone! I love these and often get up early, clean the house and sit and wait for each offer to pop up. Just last week they had a mini event with 4 books in one hour. I managed to snag a hardback copy of Michael Connelly's "The Black Box" for €1.74. A brand new book from an incredible author for the price of a bag of bar of chocolate. It's mental altogether.

Starting on June 20th The Book Depository will have their next 25 hour event.  Shipping is always free so there are no added costs. All you pay is the price of the book. I can't wait for it to start. Books are way overpriced in my nearest book shop so I'd sooner buy all of my books online. You might even get a free bookmark with it (I love these. They always come in handy)

Ice and Easy

Hey all,

You'd expect to wear a polish called "Puddle Jumping" on an awful rainy day but I wore this at the height of our Summer (About 2 weeks ago). I was going to wear Puddle Jumping on its own but I threw caution to the wind and started piling on the polish.

I have on 2 coats of Puddle Jumping. Such a gorgeous grey with blue flecks mixed in to add something a bit different to it. Love it. Then I popped on a coat of Catrice Have an Ice day from the Limited edition Million Styles collection. When that was dry I quickly added on a glitter gradient using Lac Attack Garden Party. To keep it glossy I added on a layer of Sally Hansen Insta-dri.

I wore this for the best part of a week and I loved it. I only took it off to put on an even more amazing polish that I should have swatches up for next week.

Playing with polish

Hey all,

I haven't played around with my neon nail polishes that much so out they popped alongside some striping tape.  I've been meaning to do this manicure for a while but I always forget. Seeing as my nails are much shorter I thought it would be a nice easy manicure to do. I have on China Glaze Flip Flop Fantasy (light pink), I'm with the lifeguard (lime green) and Love's a each (pink on the tips). I always used Models own Hedonist (reddish orange) and Zoya Paz (orange)

I quickly painted on a stripe of each polish, let it dry and placed three bits of striping tape on each nail, covered it with a layer of Essence Black is back and pulled off the striping tape. I topped it off with a coat of Essence Gel look topcoat. Next time I will use 4-5 bits of striping tape so the neon shines through a bit more.

Mane 'n Tail Herbal Essentials review

Hey all,

I was sent the latest Mane 'n Tail Herbal Essentials Shampoo and conditioner a good while back now. I am a huge fan of their  range as it's not often a brand releases shampoos and conditioners that actually suit my hair and scalp. I have developd a really sensitive scalp and if a haircare product disagree's with me I am left with a seriously itchy head (I swear it is not nits!) leaving my scalp bleeding and sore. Not pretty.

What struck me immediately was the lovely floral scent. The shampoo lathers up nicely but I think the conditioner is the winner in this. I love the feel of my hair after using it. My Dad is my helper when reviewing haircare products. He has very coarse hair meaning when it gets rougher it can be incredibly painful. He took these with him and the change in his hair was incredible! It was almost as soft as my own. He was thrilled with it and swears by it now. He doesn't care what product he uses (whatever is closer will do) but the Mane 'n Tail shampoo Herbal essentials Shampoo and Condtioner are now his number one choice for haircare. This is the same fella that speant years washing his hair with washing up liquid because "it does the same thing". Both the Herbal essentials Shampoo and conditioner cost €8.95 each for 335ml bottles.

Good:
  • Gorgeous scent
  • A little goes a long way
  • Suitable for coloured, permed, relaxed and chemically treated hair
  • Leaves hair soft, smooth and clean
  • Doesn't irritate your scalp
Bad:
  • Can be hard to find
  • On the pricier side ( I have long hair so I use a lot!)

You can find your local stockist HERE

Garden Party

Hey all,

The weather has been so lovely here. I'm not really bothered when it rains. It's so nice to read a book when it is pouring down outside. Still it's nice to have some sun out once in a while. I thought a nice garden themed nail design would suit the nice weather and picked out a few of my favourite nail polishes to give it a go. It's not perfect but I like it.

I started off with a base of Catrice Acid/dc, a bright lime green with shimmer. Then I freehanded some half-circles and dotted on Lac Attack Garden party, a gorgeous mix of green and pnk glitters in a clear base. Using Barry M Station road I placed a little dot in the centre of my nail as the heart of the flower. For the petals I went for Essence English Rose.

If I took my time it would have looked better but I'm still liking the end result. It's like a child's drawing  but that's part of the charm ;)

Twinsie Tuesday- Marching Orders

Hey all,

I am now part of the Twinsie Tuesday group! I am fecking delighted. They are such a lovely group and it's been great craic talking to them on facebook lately. Today we were given our "marching orders" by other members of the group. Amber from Nailslikelace was in charge and set the challenge of a Rainbow Manicure for my post.

I went for a neon rainbow seeing as we had a bit of sun out at the time, not something we are accustom to here at all! I think I got burnt just looking out of the window. I kept it fairly simple to be fair. I drew on a half moon using the Barry m Nail art pen in white. Then using my dotting tools I popped on a row of Zoya paz (orange), China Glaze I'm with the lifeguard (green) and  Love's a beach (pink), Models own Hedonist(redish orange) and China Glaze Flip flop fantasy (coral). I topped it off with a coat of Essence Gel look topcoat.

Fairly simple like. I got a few nice comments on it too which is always good!  Check out the links below to see what Marching orders the other ladies were given ( I have no idea what they got so I may check them out now too :P )

Exotic kisses

Hey all,

I've been pretty boring with my nail choices lately. I haven't been leaving the house at all so I've lost interest in doing pretty manicures. I just put on one polish and leave it until it chips. LeighAnnSays (the youtuber) has been talking about colour block nails a fair bit and I thought it might be fun to recreate the look.

I picked out two China Glaze polishes for this look. Both are from the 2012 On Safari collection. The camel colour is Kalahari kiss and the dusty teal is Exotic encounters. I love them both on their own and I think they work well together too. I suppose Kalahari kiss would go with anything really, it's great. I used 2 coats for each with a coat of Essence Gel look topcoat.

I need to get some more holographic nail polish in different colours, I think they would look amazing in a colour block manicure. It's such an easy way to get a bit more colour into your manicure.

How do ye liven up your nails?

Sally Hansen Insta-Dri review

Hey all,

A new review for ye today. This time it's a topcoat from Sally Hansen. I have nail polish from the brand and I am in love with a few of them (gilded lily is one of my must have nail polishes)  I was sent the Sally Hansen Insta-Dri topcoat. It claims to dry any nail colour in under 30 seconds and last up to 10 days without chipping.

China Glaze I'm with the lifeguard

It definitely lives up to its claims. It dries incredibly quickly and it has a gorgeous shine to it. It's not as thick as Seche vite which I prefer and it does not ruin your cuticles or the skin around your nails at all. Something I suffered greatly with when I was using the Seche topcoat.  I believe this costs around €6.95 in boots (I can't remember but it was around that) You get 13.3 ml of product. It has a nice brush. Not too thick or too thin.

Essence Irreplaceable

I have used this in a few manicure so far (as you can see :P ) and I am so pleased with its formula and the end result. I will update this when I have finished the bottle as I am interested to see if it goes gloopy or stringy towards the end.

China Glaze Running in circles

The one negative I have is that it cannot be used on your nail art designs. It makes the nail polish run and pretty much ruins it. Some people won't mind it that much but for me personally that loses marks.

Lac Attack Spring Fling and Catrice Have an Ice day
The Good:

  • It dries quickly with a nice glossy finish
  • It's relatively inexpensive
  • It has a good amount of product
  • The formula and brush are pretty much perfect
  • Sally Hansen are Cruelty-Free
The Bad:
  • It can make nail polish run so it's not great for stamping or nail art

Running in flowers

Hey all,

I stamped over China Glaze Running in Circles using my Born Pretty M73 stamping plate. I knew a dark polish wouldn't show up so instead I used Catrice Salmon and Garfunkel. The stamp showed up beautifully in some lights but it was barely visible in others.

I like the flowery design but I think it is too fine in detail to use over Running in circles. It's a shame because I quite like that stamp.
