Cocoa Brown Tough Stuff review

Hey all,

I've been trying out the new Cocoa Brown Tough Stuff scrub for the past week of so now. This is a really fine scrub but it is packed full of tiny beads which is not common with some of the scrubs  I have tried in the past.Once you put it on your skin and start scrubbing away it feels like you are rubbing sand on your skin. The quicker you scrub, the better it works ( for me anyway, it depends on how dry your skin is too). Now I don't have tanned skin so I can't tell you how well it works on priming the skin for the application of fake tan. I just use scrubs for get rid of skin dry. Not pretty but it has to be done!

Cocoa Brown Tough Stuff scrub

They say not to use it on delicate areas as it is quite a heavy duty scrub in a way. It worked grand on my feet. I have a dry patch on my leg and even after rubbing this is for a while and heaping on a heavy cream at night, it didn't make a huge difference. It's something I would personally have to keep doing daily for a while to have any noticeable difference. I did get my dad to use it and he had great results. He suffers from dry skin and after a good 5 minute scrub using Tough Stuff and applying the Garnier intensive 7 day moisturizer, he hasn't had a problem with his skin in over 2 days which is a massive relief for him. We both used it on dry skin so the beads would really penetrate the dry layers but you can use it in the shower or bath if you want a more easy going scrub.

I have a 50ml sachet and if they bring out a bigger tub of Tough Stuff I would definitely buy it. It smells like Herbal Essences Shampoo, it doesn't feel greasy at all and it leaves your skin nice and smooth. Although it didn't make a huge difference to the area I suffer the most with, it did a great job everywhere else. When it comes to body scrubs I always favour the tougher ones as I don't see the point in buying a full tub of something that does a half-arsed job. Buy something that's tough and use it gently and you'll be far better off in the long run (that's my thinking anyway haha)

Blushing Bride

Hey all,

I thought Sally Hansen Diamond Strength in Blushing Bride would be incredibly sheer. I was so sure of it that I just left it unswatched until I could find a proper base for it. It was only recently that I decided to see how many coats it would take to for my own peace of mind.

So I was completely wrong! It only took 3 coats to be opaque and it is the most beautiful pink shimmery polish that I have ever tried. I can completely see why they would call it blushing bride- the perfect name for this polish. This would be a great wedding polish if you aren't one to go for french manicures. It's just gorgeous. Application was good. It's thin but manageable. It dries quickly and it's a synch to remove. If you see this polish, I'd defintiely recommend buying it.

Twinsie Tuesday Ice Cream

Hey all,

Today's theme is ice-cream so I went for the predictable :P Sometimes it is just easier to stick with the devil you know than the devil you don't. I have on 2 coats of China Glaze Kalahari Kiss. I used regular brown acrylic paint for the stripes. For the ice-cream I went for Smitten Polish Mint chip ,for the green, and strawberry tart for the pink.

I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out.  The ice-cream drips were a lot harder to do than I thought! I should have gone with more opaque polishes for the ice-cream. The smitten polish's are nice but thin so it made it a lot harder to control them. The other twinsies posts are linked down below.

Every month is Oktoberfest

Hey all,

This is the polish I have been wearing for the last few days. I bought this a good while ago but it just came in the post a week or so ago- Beauty bay are awful with shipping, I would not recommend them in any way shape or form. This is OPI Every month is Oktoberfest. Since I already had a dupe of OPI Germanicure (Misa bourbon on the rocks) and I adore it so much I thought I may aswell add this to my collection.

Even though I'm not always keen on purple nail polish, I have to admit this is a lovely polish. It's a plummy purple. Depending on the light it can look incredibly dark. Not black, just a very dark purple. It has a lovely red shimmer running through it. You can see a bit more of the shimmer in person than what appears on camera. I love the way this  looks on. Here I have on 2 coats with a topcoat of sally Hansen insta-dri. My index finger needed 3 coats as it dragged a little but it wasn't hugely noticeable.

Even though I don't think is deserves the ridiculous hype surrounding it, the shimmer is nice but it didn't blow me away, I do think it is a great polish to have. The formula is a little thin but it's very easy to work with. I've been wearing it for about 3 days now and it still looks great. I have a feeling it would make a great topper over other polishes but I haven't had the chance to try that out just yet. I am glad I finally picked it up after months of debating whether it was actually worth it or not. I knew I would regret it if I left it behind once more.

Hask Placenta Leave-in Hot Creme deep conditioning treatment review

Hey all,

I've had this for a while now and I thought it was about time I actually reviewed it. This is the Hask Placenta Leave-in Hot Creme deep conditioning treatment. I bought this for €2 in Penny's a month or two ago. I love haircare products and Hask are really bringing out some amazing products so it seemed a good one to try. The tube is almost 30ml. They say you get two uses out of this but honestly that depends on the length of your hair. Mine hits my lower back and I could have easily gotten 3-4 uses out of this. I put it in my hair right after a shower and left it to dry naturally. Once you open the tube you can re-seal it so don't worry about it spilling out before your next shower or bath.

My hair definitely felt nicer after using this. I forgot to put it in one night and my hair just did not feel as healthy. Without it, my hair was frizzy and although it didn't feel dry, it wasn't as smooth and soft as it was when I had the treatment in my hair. If I get another tube of this I won't be as wary of heaping it in. Seeing as my hair is quite long, I definitely need more product than most people would.

For the price, this is definitely worth a try. It has a nice smell and it lasts a good few uses. You heat it up in a bit of water, pop it in after you wash your hair and that's it. It's safe for chemically treated or coloured hair too.

Zoya Beatrix

Hey all,

I actually won Zoya Beatrix in a twitter giveaway by Supernail Ireland. I love orange nail polish and it's always great to get a nail polish that is fairly expensive and hard to get in Ireland so needless to say I was delgihted! Beatrix is from the Pixie Dust collection in case any of ye are looking to pick it up.

I have to say I was a bit unimpressed by Beatrix. The orange is very washed out in person and it looks so dull.  Even with the golden shimmery bits the polish just didn't stand out at all. Secondly, it took forever to dry. On top of that, Beatrix is quite sheer and it has a thick formula. I don't mind the thickness to be far but I found application was a pain in the arse. No matter how much or how little you put on the brush, I always ended up with bald spots on the second coat.3 coats and slow drying time is not good.

The only redeeming factor comes when you add on a topcoat. I added on a layer of Essence Gel look topcoat to my middle and ring fingerabove. The colour darkens slightly and the gold bits perk up a tiny bit making it a bit more interesting. Honestly for around €10 a bottle, I'd say you are better off looking elsewhere for a textured polish. I have 3 Zoya polishes from their Ornate collection and I really like them but I found Zoya Paz , a neon orange, to share the same bad qualities as Beatrix. The brand is very hit and miss for me so far. Not really something you would expect for the price.

Twinsie Tuesday-Chevron

Hey all,

As I write this I'm listening to FUN's version of Call me Maybe, originally released by Carly Rae Jepsen. It's not as fast paced and upbeat as the original but I love Nate's voice. So soothing. I really need to get my hands on their "Some Nights" album.

Chevron was the theme for today. I tried a few variations of the theme but I wasn't really feeling the end result. In the end I settled on this one. I love the colours. The base is 2 coats of OPI Live or Let die. Such a gorgeous green with gold speckles. Then I sectioned off the nails (freehand, I had no patience for striping tape) and added on 2 coats of OPI Skull and Glossbones. When that was dry I added a final coat of OPI The world is not enough. Even though that sounds like a heap of coats they were all thin so you'd never guess it.

I'd  say if they'd been a bit straighter (and neater :P ) I would have kept them on for far longer. I really like the end result. That green is so gorgeous in real life. The camera never really picks up on all of the gold specks. I added on a coat of Essence Gel look topcoat to get it to look nice and squishy. That's all there is to it :) The other twinsies links are down below.

Crushed

Hey all,

I don't have access to Superdrug or anywhere that sells MUA so I was delighted when Audrey from The Nail Affair gave the the MUA Strawberry Crush nail polish. I've had to stop buying certain nail polish brands recently so I am trying out new brands to hopefully replace the old ones.

Strawberry Crush isn't as super bright as it shows above but it is a nice bright pink. The formula isn't amazing though. Even with 3 coats it has a tonne of bald spots. It dries fairly glossy though. I know it's a fairly cheap polish but with this formula I'd say you are better off saving your pennies and buying a slightly more expensive polish (like Essence or Catrice) instead. One good polish is far better than 3-4 shite ones.

So many MUA won't be on my "Brands I buy" list but it was great to finally get the chance to try them out. I'm sure they have other better performing nail polishes, I just haven't found one yet.

Crappy Coral

Hey all,

I've had Barry M retro coral for a fair while now but I don't think I've ever showed it on the blog. It's a bit more pink than it shows on camera. It is jam-packed full of shimmer. The biggest let down of this polish is the formula. Even at three coats this polish would not even out. It has a tonne of bald spots, it was thick and a nightmare overall to put on. The colour was nice but honestly I don't see myself using this for manicures in the future. It's more of a nail art kind of polish.

My fingers are in awful shape at the moment. Even though I keep them moisturized they have started peeling around the nail. Such a pain in the arse! Especially when  I'm doing nail art. Clean up is a nightmare when they are like this.

Giorgio Armani Si

Hey all,

Although I haven't been into nail painting lately, I have been giving my other (more expensive) obsession a lot more attention. I was sent the new Giorgio Armani  perfume and let me tell you, it is gorgeous!  For me, this is the perfect day to night perfume. It's sweet but not a sugary sweet you would wear going to school. It's a warm, mature scent. The packing is simple but not bland. Now I never leave my perfume or nail polish on my desk as the sunlight will make them evaporate and  the perfume will turn giving it an awful smell but this bottle would add a touch of class to any table.

After a few minutes, Si  reminded me of a more toned down version of Lancome Hypnose (one of my all time favourite scents) with a hint of Lancome La Vie est Belle. It's by no means a dupe of either of those perfumes but they share quite a few notes including vanilla. The lasting power is incredible, hence my belief that it is  the perfect day perfume. 2 squirts of Si will last you throughout your working day and into the night. It sticks to your clothing so your scarf, coat, jumper will smell amazing the next day. There is no need to top this perfume up at all. The creators were spot on in describing it as a sensual and warm scent. This is my first experience with Giorgio Armani but it will not be my last. This is right up my street and will be my go-to perfume for the next while.

Giorgio Armani Si is exclusive to Brown Thomas in Galway, Dublin, Limerick and Cork  It will be released on the 21st of August and will retail for €55 for 30ml, €78 for 50ml and €105 for 100ml.

Twinsie Tuesday- Circus

Hey all,
Today's twinsie tuesday theme is "Circus". I've been to the circus only once when I was young. I don't agree with their treatment of animals so I avoid going now. This made the challenge fairy hard to complete until I thought of this:

Screenshot from here
If ye haven't seen the film Madagascar, at least click the link in the caption. It is hilarious!! So I decided to try and recreate Marty from Madagascar 3 dressed as a Circus clown.

Marty is done entirely with Acrylic paint. I changed his eyes a bit because I couldn't get them to look exactly like the screenshot. For the other nails I used 2 coats of Essence Black is back, yellow and brown acrylic paint for the lights and the rope and a coat of Catrice Have an ice day to add a bit of holographic sparkle so it'd look like the sky at night.

I love the rest of my nails but I think I could have worked on Marty for a bit longer. It's not as good as I had hoped but I had no time at all left to fix it up. I'm just glad I managed to get something done for this challenge :P

Lam Lam on mushrooms

Hey all,

I have been on a bit of a polish low for a few weeks now. I haven't painted my nails, apart from swatches, in about 3 weeks. No matter what I try I just end up wiping the design/polish back off in a matter of seconds. I generally have a good few pictures ready for each coming week but since I haven't painted my nails I have to rely on older swatches that I never got around to posting.

This is two coats of Barry M Mushroom. A standard brown creme which chips easily without a topcoat but it is quite nice. I stamped over it with OPI Khloe had a little lam lam, a gorgeous teal creme. The stamp is from the Born Pretty Plate m64.

A Lit-teal holographic polish

Hey all,

Today I have the last of my Born Pretty reviews for this week. This time I have the Born Pretty Holographic polish in #10, a teal blue linear holographic which is actually quite strong. It looks much better in person though. I adore the colour of this polish. It's so pretty!

The formula was good. It's a three coater on my short nails mainly because I hate any sign of tips showing through. It dries fairly fast but it has a strong enough smell so paint in a well ventilated room. It is a touch darker in person.

The only complaint I have is the size of the bottle. It's 6ml and it costs $5.59 at the moment. Regular price is $12.88. Other than that it's a lovely little polish!

As light as a feather

Hey all,

Part 2 of my 3 part Born Pretty Store review! This time I have their version of the Feather effect nail polish trend. I actually love the look of the feather effect trend in the bottle but it never really translates well onto the nail. The nicest swatches I  have come across so far are from Nails Inc and Sally Hansen. The born pretty store version is a bit different to the tradional Feather effect as it has little glitters mixed in with the bar glitter.

I have #10 to show ye today. Even though it was a bit thick and it took a bit longer to dry than normal nail polish (probably due to the thickness) I really like this polish. Here I have one coat over Sinful Colors Boom Boom! (pink) and Savage (turquoise but leans more towards blue than green) I love the way it looks over savage in particular. The white bar glitter really stands out.

White out

Hey all,

I was sent this BK matte white  nail polish from Born Pretty Store last week and I was dying to put it on. I haven't had a white nail polish for the longest time and it was driving me crazy. I had planned to use this in a lot of nail art ideas I have planned.

Unfortunately the polish isn't great at all. I needed at least three coats on most nails. The formula was really thick and you can see the ridges it left at the sides even with a topcoat. The end result wasn't good. It actually looks better in the pictures. In person it looks thick and ridgy. I'm really disappointed. When I removed the polish my nails were left with a chalky residue that actually took a good run to get off. Definitely need to use a basecoat with this one.

The BK matte white nail polish costs $4.36 for 15ml.

Twinsie Tuesday-Mish Mosh

Hey all,

Today's Twinsie Tuesday theme is not my favourite to be honest. I couldn't get the the different techniques to blend together so they look a bit odd on my nails. I kept on my previous manicure for this so if ye want details on that you can check out my previous post.

So for the different techniques I went for dotting, a gradient, some freehand and some striping. The blue I used is Barry M Denim which has a dull/ matte kind of finish. The glitter gradient is Essence Hello Holo. The only nail I actually like is the ring finger with the gradient.

I'm Smitten with this manicure

Hey all,

I am completely exhausted typing up this post. I have no idea why, I didn't do anything extremely active today. I had planned on reading a few chapters of the Hobbit but I can barely keep my eyes open at the moment even with copious amounts of coffee inside of me.

I was looking for a nail polish the last day and I realised I hadn't used my Smitten polishes in a while. I grabbed Pink Lemonade and Strawberry tart and decided to pop them on. Under  1 coat of Strawberry tart I have 2 coats of MUA Strawberry crush (thanks Audrey for giving this to me!) Under one coat of Pink Lemonade I have 2 coats of NYC Lexington Yellow. I topped it off with a coat of Sally Hansen Insta-dri.

How pretty is that? I am in love with this combination! I need to use these polishes more often.

Holy Grail Hair oil

Hey all,

After an endless battle with testing new shampoos and conditioners I gave up and turned to hair oils in order to add some shine and softness to my hair. I have quite long hair and I don't use straighteners or hairdryers that often (maybe once every 3-6 months) but still it ends up looking dry and dull. I was sent out a little treasure chest of Hask products recently. Ye all know I am a huge fan of the Hask Argan Oil Healing shine but I believe the role of my Number one hair product has been taken over by the Hask Macadamia Oil Revitalizing Shine Hair treatment.

It has the most intriguing scent. It's a mixture of vanilla and something else. Have ye have ever caught a whiff of the Aquolina Pink Sugar perfume? well this smells EXACTLY like the perfume. It's so gorgeous. The product looks the same as the Argan oil and the Keratin Protein (review coming soon) abar the lid. Each lid is different and matches the writing on the bottle. The Macadamia oil has a gold lid as ye can see above, the Argan oil has a blue lid and the Keratin protein has a silver lid. This is very handy as you can pick out the desired bottle at a quick glance.

I pour a small amount (around the size of the cap) into my hands, rub them together and run my fingers through my hair while it is wet. I also add a tiny bit more to my ends. This really helps keep them soft and it tames my split ends a fair bit. This helps to speed up drying time as the oil and water separate from each other. I usually pop on a hair turban to soak up all the water. I noticed that my hair stayed incredibly soft and smooth for longer compared to the other oils I have tried. I have used this around 5-6 times and I've only gone through about 1/5 of the 18ml bottle. I'm definitely going to buy a few bottles to keep them in stock.  I believe the Hask Macadamia oil costs €2.50 in Pennys and I think it's £2.50 in Primark too. If ye have the same hair problems but don't want to splurge on the more expenisve brands in case they don't live up to the hype then I'd highly recommend picking up a bottle of Hask Macadamia oil revitalizing shine hair treatment.
