Hotel Transylvania nail art

Hey all,

I am not into Halloween at all. It does nothing for me! I don't get the hype although I do like watching videos on youtube of people walking through the haunted houses (thank to Breige for tweeting about the Ellen one!) I do like film inspired nail art though and seeing as Hotel Transylvania is pretty much a Halloween appropriate film I thought I'd post the manicure today. I went for the bat (actually Dracula's daughter but I prefer her as a bat), dracula and the mummy from the film.

The base is Sally Hansen Gilded lily (3 coats). Everything else is acrylic paint apart from the lime green on the mummy's eyes which is Catrice Acid/Dc. I was going to do another Character on my pinky but to be honest I only liked the 3 that I included so I left it blank :P

If ye haven't seen Hotel Transylvania do give it a watch. It's a lovely story and it has some sad parts in it. I swear I only ever get upset watching a fecking animated film :P They always get to me! I cannot wait to see Despicable me 2 (Praying the Dvd comes out soon) and Frozen (the snowman is the only reason I want to see it. He is fricking adorable)

Glorious Aquarius

 Hey all,

I have a few of the Essence toppers but I only ever really use Catrice "Have an ice Day". I had to find a nice use for some of them and after seeing this on another blog (I can't remember the name but if I find it I'll pop it in here) I knew I had to try it. I'm not entirely happy with the base of Catrice Hip Queens wear blue jeans (2 coats) I think I needed an actual navy polish without any shimmer whatsoever for it to really make me love it. 1 coat of Essence Glorious Aquarius was enough to cover each nail. I topped it off with a matte topcoat. I definitely prefer matte topcoats over glitter like this.

I like it but I have to try a few other base colours to find the perfect blue. I heard there is a new version of Essence Glorious Aquarius out but I haven't come across it yet. Essence are feckers for using the same polish name over and over again.

Twinsie Tuesday- The Discworld #27: The Last hero

Hey all,

I an in awe of Paul Kidby and the work he does. He is so incredibly talented and manages to bring the characters to life in a way many others cannot even come close to. One of my favourite books of all time is The Last Hero by Sir Terry Pratchett. The book is illustrated by Paul Kidby and it is absolutely beautiful.  I love flicking through it and just admiring the colours and the detail he has put into every character and the landscape they are set in.

Today's Twinsie Tuesday theme is Space and I knew straight away that I was going to base my manicure on The Last Hero I picked out the two images in particular and I am delighted with the way it turned out. Obviously I will never come close to achieving the same brilliance as Paul Kidby's work but I'm happy out with the end result all the same.

This is based on P.122 of The last Hero. The base polish is Zoya Storm (a black polish with holographic glitter) The blue is Sinful color Endless Blue. For Leonard of Quirm's head (Middle finger, He's facing towards the sun) I used Elf Nude and Barry M Peach Melba and for his grey hair I used  Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure 372 Greige and OPI Skull and Glossbones. The orange, green and white are acrylic paints.

This is the very back of the book and probably one of my favourite images. It is just perfect and exactly how I imagined the it would be based on the story. I could go on and on about this book and how amazing it is but I won't :P

Going brown town

Hey all,

I'm not in love with most brown nail polishes. To be honest I only really wear brown if I have to go to a meeting. It's basic but it looks nice and sophisticated. I used the Elf Smoky Brown nail polish a while back fr a gradient and I really liked the way it looked. It's quite a dark, milk chocolate kind of brown. Not something I would wear often on its own but it is great for nail art.

The formula on Smoky brown was pretty much flawless. 2 easy coats and I was happy to go. I popped on a topcoat just to make it last longer on the nail. The brushes on Elf nail polish are awful weird though. Some are really short and other have a huge long handle. Very strange! They are pretty good quality for the price though so I wouldn't let the brush keep you from picking up a shade you liked. If ye have any recommendations for nice polishes from Elf do let me know!

Gio

 Hey all,

I am in love with this colour. It is so bright and glossy. This is another Giorgio Armani polish called 301 Gio. Again it comes in a 6ml bottle which has a wide brush making application a breeze. I prefer wider brushes because I have fairly wide nails. If you have thin nail beds you might find it a bit harder to work with this brush but it's not impossible by any means.

Gio is opaque in one coat but I always apply 2 just to be on the safe side. They are on the dearer side, around €24 a bottle, but they are well made. They remind me a lot of the Sally hansen Complete Salon manicure range. Both have the same gel-like appearance and application is great for both brands.

Kaleidoscope

Hey all,

Giogio Armani actually make really good nail polishes. I would never have guessed! They have a decent range of colours and the formula is pretty good. I was sent out 2 from the range- 301 Gio and today's polish which is 702 Kaleidoscope.

Kaleidoscope is a duochrome. I mostly see blue in the pictures but in certain lights it goes a nice purple colour. Kaleidoscope is a pearl white, it is a tad streaky but it's not a huge problem. It's opaque in 2 coats but I have in 3 to be on the safe side. It works really well for stamping which surprised me. This type of polish isn't up my street at all but I'm sure a lot of people would appreciate it.

Giorgio Armani 702 Kaleidoscope costs €24 for a 6ml bottle. You can find the range in Brown Thomas or online at Armani Beauty.

Glittering Garland

Hey all,

I have not worn China Glaze Glittering Garland in ages. I love green, dark green especially, but I never seem to actually wear it. I love this shade though. After putting it on I couldn't believe how pretty it looked! It does look a bit "meh" in the bottle but on the nail it is so gorgeous.

I have on 2 coats of glittering garland with  a coat of Sally Hansen Insta-dri to keep it glossy. I swatched this a fair while back but here it is again on shorter nails. I have been wearing a lot of sparkly polishes lately but this is one of the more toned down versions. It is great for nail art (I used it a lot last christmas). It is from the China Glaze Let it Snow! holiday collection that came out in 2011. It was such a strong collection. I don't think the 2013 collection is much cop to be honest which is a shame because China Glaze can clearly make good, interesting polishes.

Twinsie Tuesday- Weather inspired

Hey all,

My beloved dotting tools came in handy for this week's Twinsie Tuesday Challenge. The theme of the week was "Weather inspired". I went for a simple cloud manicure. I started off with two coats of Lac Attack Puddle jumping. Using a medium sized dotting tool I added on the clouds.

The blue flecks in Puddle jumping looked like a shower of rain so the manicure definitely captured the weather in Ireland at the moment.

Jasper Jewellery review

Hey all,

This lovely piece of jewellery arrived last Friday. This is the Swarovski Crystal Elements Gold Bracelet from Jasper Jewellery. This is priced at €85 down from €110 and it definitely feels like a strong, good quality bracelet.  It catches the light beautifully. I can only imagine how striking this will be when the summer rolls back around (assuming we get at least one week of good weather like we had this year)

I have worn this a few times already but this is the only good picture I have on my hand. It doesn't feel too heavy and I like the little tinkly sounds it makes when you move.

The one problem I have with this bracelet in particular is the clasp. It is really hard to get this on by yourself and even when I asked someone to help me, they just couldn't get a good hold of the clasp. It needs an extra link in order to make it a bit easier to put on.

You definitely have room to loosen or tighten the bracelet in order to make it more secure on your own wrist. I have fairly wide wrists so I was delighted to see the extra bit of chain. The only other recommendation I'd have concerns the wrapping .It does come beautifully packaged which is a lovely addition if the piece you ordered was a present for someone. I do think it is unnecessary if you were just ordering for yourself. If there was an option for it to come without the extra wrapping I'd definitely go without it. It's better for the environment and I'm sure it would save money for the company.

This particular bracelet is out of stock at the moment but you can sign up for email updates and they will let you know when it is back in stock. Jasper Jewellery offer free worldwide shipping which is an absolutely huge bonus. They have their own courier so you don't have to worry about it getting lost in the post.  Their website is so easy to navigate and the descriptions they have for each piece means you can be sure it will fit.
They have a huge selection or bracelets, rings, brooches, pendants etc. It was so hard to pick just one piece! They have a fair few pieces in their sale section at the moment so ye should definitelt check that out and grab a gorgeous piece of jewellery for a great price.

**UPDATE**
Jasper Jewellery got in contact with me over the weekend and they have just added an "opt-out" option for the extra wrapping paper. This is a great idea and I'm delighted that they took on the suggestion. They also assured me that the issue I have with the clasp being too short to grab a hold of is a once off and they are keeping an eye on the rest of the jewellery so it should not be an issue in the future. This just goes to show how considerate the company are.

WOW Brown review

Hey all,

Fake tan is pretty much featured on every beauty blog at some point. Some people use it every week, some reserve it for special occasions and others use it once in a blue moon. I have a special occasion coming up and I thought it would be nice to throw on a bit of tan just to give some warmth to my skin. I am pale and I always get the "you look pale, are you sick?" comments. It doesn't bother me in fairness but seeing as it's a special occasion I thought I would do something different. The WOW brown tanning liquid was sent to me a few weeks ago but I just got around to putting it on last week (a practice run). This is an Irish based brand which is always a good thing to promote and seeing as it is advertised as being a dark tan I was excited to see a huge difference when I washed it off.

LEFT- WOW Brown tan  RIGHT- Natural (no tan)

To say I was left disappointed is an understatement. It barely made any difference at all to my skin. It was even less noticeable in person. I followed the instructions to a T and I even left it on longer (as recommended on the box) to make my tan even deeper. I have read great reviews on other blogs but for me this was a waste of time. A bottle of WOW brown tan costs €21.99 for a 100ml and claims to give 7-10 full body applications.  They don't test on animals and the bottle is travel friendly. I'm glad I didn't use it the night before going anywhere. That would have been an awful let down.

Breast Cancer awareness week- Valley

Hey all,

My final manicure for Breast Cancer awareness week. Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Right Said fred acts as the best. Then I marked off a triangle in the center with striping tape and filled in the gap with Mauve Along, another polish from the Complete salon manicure range. Then I topped that off with F4 Bubble Yum and added on a coat of Essence Gel look topcoat.

A nice and simple manicure bit I think it looks good.

Nivea Stress Protect

Hey all,

I’m sure most of ye are familiar with the brand Nivea. I've always had Nivea products around the house because it’s the one brand that actually works for my skin. I am very selective with deodorant (for obvious reasons!) and I need to know that no matter what situation I am in, I won’t have to worry if my deodorant is good enough. I have used most of the Nivea roll on deodorants and I always repurchase when I am running low without any second thoughts about the brand or the deodorant itself.

The latest one to hit the market is the Nivea anti-perspirant  Stress Protect 48h deodorant. You can get this is all of the usual forms including spray, roll-on and stick.  I have been using the Nivea Stress protect roll-on for the last 2 weeks and I have to say I’m delighted with it. I have been a lot more active these last few weeks so it came at the perfect time.  Despite a lot of rushing around in warm weather and working out I had absolutely no worries.  It has a completely different scent to the other deodorants I have used. It has a slightly floral scent but it’s not overpowering at all.
Nivea deodorant is very affordable. The retail prices for the Stress Protect range are listed below:

· Nivea Stress Protect Spray 150ml/250ml – RRP €2.89/€3.99
· Nivea Stress Protect Roll-on- RRP €2.79
(Includes both Nivea for Men and for women)

Available for both men and women , you can find Nivea deodorants in most shops.  Tesco and Boots often have them on special offer (usually half-price) so keep an eye out for a good deal.

Breast Cancer awareness week- Polka Dots

Hey all,

This is my favourite manicure of the week. I love polka dot nails. They are so much fun to do, they take hardly any time at all and they are so fricking cute! I knew I would have to include polka dots for Breast Cancer awareness week.

I used Boots 17 in Sweet kisses for my base. This is my all time favourite shade of pink but I hate the formula. It takes 3 coats and the dry time is not the best at all even with a quick dry topcoat. It's the main reason I never wear it. Once that had finally dried I added on my polka dots using my dotting tools. I started off with NYC New York colour in a minute  in Midtown in the middle. Then to the left and right of that I used Barry M Gelly Hi shine in Pink Dragon. If there was space left on the nail I filled it in with Midtown. I finished it off with a coat of Essence Gel-look topcoat.

Seriously love for these nails. I wish I could do it as a pedicure but that is such a pain in the arse. I can barely do a normal pedi without getting bored half-way through and I always make a mess.

ROADS Designer Classics series

Hey all,

I love reading so I was delighted to hear of ROADS, a Dublin based publishing compnay, who just released the Designer classics series. They have given 10 classics books a make-over, changing the covers completely. They all have a similar design apart from the center which is different for each book. The borders are also different colours which I like. It makes them look like part of a collection without being boring and plain.  If ye have ever read/seen the "A series of unfortunate events" books, they have the same basic idea.

Each book costs €12.50 and you can pick them up in most bookshops. I love book collections. They really brighten up my book shelf and you really can't go wrong with the classics. They complete any bookshelf. I was sent both "The Picture of Dorian Grey" by Oscar Wilde and "Madame Bovary" by Gustave Flaubert. I haven't read either so I cannot wait to get stuck in! This is just the first set of releases and the collection will grow over the years. I am excited to see what other book designs they come out with.

Breast Cancer Awareness week- Blushing Bride

Hey all,

Here I have on 2 coats of Sally Hansen Blushing Bride. This is a beautiful, shimmer laden pink polish. I can definitely see someone wearing this on their wedding day or even as a guest to a wedding. It's so pretty. I added on a coat of F4 Splat just to make it a bit different for today's post. I topped it off with a coat of Essence Gel-look topcoat.

It's nice to keep your nails plain and simple but a little glitter never hurts (once in a while) Removal can be a bitch :P

Breast Cancer awareness week- Jelly sandwich

Hey all,

Another fairly simple manicure for Breast Cancer awareness week but I managed to combine two types of pink. I have on 1 coat of Essence Cotton Candy, a sheer pink jelly. Then I added on a coat of Lac Attack Cherry Blossom Bloom. When that was dry I added on a final coat of Cotton candy and that's all there is to it!

I remember when this style of manicure was in fashion and you could not go a day without seeing a blog post featuring a jelly sandwich. It was an epidemic! I prefer using a matte topcoat when doing a sandwich but I left it glossy for today.

Twinsie Tuesday- Most hated trend

Hey all,

Double posting today to keep up with the Twinsie Tuesday schedule. My most hated trend was hard to pick to be honest! I'm not keen on a lot of trends but I only had the material to actually do one of them and that is the caviar nail "art" trend. I honestly don't see the point of it. It doesn't last a day, it doesn't look good in my opinion and it's a waste of money. Some of the "Special sets" cost a fecking ridiculous amount and are pure rip-off's.

To make this look somewhat appeasing I did a chevron design on my other nails. The base is Catrice Sing Hey Dirty-lilah (2 coats) and Catrice Lucky in lilac on the tips.

Breast Cancer Awareness week- Colour Block

Hey all,

Not my best colour block manicure in the world but it was worth a try! I have on a base of Barry M textured nail effect 3 Kingsland road. This needed 3 coats but I really like the colour and effect so that wasn't too much of a bother. Then I marked off the triangles using striping tape and put Revlon 260 Girly in the middle and Nails inc OMP! on the tips. I took some pictures but it didn't look right so I added on a stripe of the Barry m nail art pen in pink above Revlon Girly. Then to blend it all together I put on a topcoat.

It looked better in my head to be honest! I'll have to have another go at using glitter in a colour block in the future. I think my base pink was just too light for it to work.
