In Love with Lancome

Hey all,

Lancome have released what I think is one of the more unique Christmas gift sets that I have come across this year. You get 4 mini products in these beautiful little gift boxes which can be used as decorations for your tree. It's a lovely way of surprising a loved one at home. You could hang them on the tree and let them find them or wrap them up individually for under the tree. Inside the four boxes are Lancome Rouge in love (159B) Lancome Hypnose mascara in black (2ml) Lancome Gloss in Love 144 Glittermania (4.5ml) or Lancome Vernis in Love 112B (6ml).

I have the lipstick in Rouge in love. It is the cutest little thing I have ever come across! It's dinky! Great for bringing with you on the go and you can not get more compact than that in fairness :P  I am really liking the colour. Great for everyday wear without feeling like you are going over the top with your makeup.

The set costs €46( on offer at the moment for €41.40) and it's available in Brown Thomas Dublin, Limerick, Cork and Galway.

Going straight to Red

Hey all,

Catrice Caught on the red carpet is an oldie. It's one of the first nail polishes I ever bought from Catrice and I absolutely loved it.  You can almost see how low my bottle is in the picture above. It's not the most unique shade in the world but I loved how deep this looked in the bottle. On the nail it is a little bit darker than it shows above. I don't love it as much as I used to but I'm glad I have it.

This is 3 coats with a topcoat to make it nice and glossy. The formula was grand. It can drag if you don't let the coats dry properly but other than that it's a nice polish. It stains my skin like a bitch though so I really have to be careful not to be too heavy handed when applying it. I can't stand it when my cuticles or the sides of my nails are stained by the polish I have on. It makes the whole manicure look so messy. More often than not I remove the whole manicure if that happens as it's the only way to really get rid of the staining.

I've been pushing my cuticles back for a while now but over the weekend I found my old metal Tweezerman cuticle pusher. I was delighted and that night I used it, moisturized and went to bed. Woke up the next morning and my nails were in absolute bits! I have no idea if that is normal but I am going straight back to my flimsy old rubber tipped one. You wouldn't mind but I was only after getting the fecking things in somewhat decent condition.

How do ye deal with yer cuticles?

Twinsie Tuesday- Essence Choose me

Hey all,

Essence Choose me is the first polish I ever swatched and that is the theme for this weeks' Twinsie Tuesday. I actually do not like this polish all that much. It doesn't so anything for me. The more I put it on the more disappointed I am with it :P It's just boring for me! I know shimmer polishes are usually the most amazing polishes you can find. I am in love with Essence Irreplaceable but Choose me just isn't for me. I remember seeing it on an old friend and loving the way it looked on her but I always end up taking it off after an hour or less.

I really tried to make it more "me" put the end result was pretty lackluster. I used a matte topcoat then added on some polka dots and a tip with a regular topcoat. It was more noticeable in person but even then it did nothing for me. I hope ye liked the swatch at least :P

Dare to Compare to NYC

Hey all,

NYC are holding a competition over on their facebook page with a fair load of amazing prizes to giveaway. All you have to do is compare NYC products to other makeup brands and say what you think about them! It's fairly simple and you could win a goodie bag worth €50!
Displaying Range 2013.jpg
The other option is to show them (using pictures) how they compare to other brands and you could win a years supply of NYC goodies worth €300. Even if you haven't tried anything from the NYC line yet you can still enter to win one of 5 NYC mascaras.

Just head on over to their Facebook Page and enter. It's definitely worth a shot! I am a huge fan of their nail polishes. For a budget brand they are great quality and have even knocked off some Barry M nail polishes from my "holy grail" nail polish list.

A Christmas Comic

Hey all,

Something a tiny bit different today. I did something like this last year and it got a nice response so I tried to up my game and do something better this year. So read on ahead or watch the video at the end.

This is not a sponsored post or anything. I have already bought all of my books for Christmas from the Book Depository and it's good to support a company that actually delivers on their promises. Great customer service, fast delivery and they host a tonne of giveaways, sales, 25 hour events as well as discount prices throughout the year. This Thursday 28th at 12pm they are holding another one of the 25 hour sale events with a new book going on a serious discount every 30 minutes. It's a great way of getting books for Christmas both for yourself and to give as a gift.  I thought this would be a fun little gift guide ( I have since bought 2 of the books mentioned above) and I hope it gave ye some ideas as to what ye could get for Chrismtas.

All the books mentioned above including links:
How to fall in love by Cecelia Ahern €12.45
Mrs Browns Family handbook by Brendan O Carroll  €13.71
The Elf on the Shelf by Carol V Aebersold €23.02
Raising Steam by Sir Terry Pratchett €13.71
(All prices accurate at time of publication)

October favourite - Essence Grumpy

Hey all,

I think this was my most worn polish in October. Whenever I have somewhere important to go to this is the colour I go for. It's not that I'm madly in love with it and it's probably not my favourite polish in the whole entire world but I do really like it. Application is great, it dries quickly and I don't have any clean up to do at the end. I put on a coat of sally Hansen Insta-dri to keep it glossy and to stop it from chipping.

I'm glad I didn't buy Nails inc Baker Street after all. I was hell bent on getting it but the price was way to high. Nails inc always chip on me after a day and the formula and application leave a lot to be desired. Essence are cheap, easy to get (for me anyway) and the formula is great 9 times out of 10. True the bottles are a bit small but this shade is so well duplicated at this point that pretty much every brand has a good version available. I still have a fair bit left in my bottle so I'm not too bothered about replacing it just yet.

Pick up some Argan for a bargain

Hey all,

This is a long time coming. Hask were sound enough to pop out a basket of goodies and send them all the way over to me. I wanted to make sure I really tested them out before I wrote a review just so I know for sure how I feel about them. The most recent addition to the Hask line is the Shampoo and Conditioner set for both the Argan Oil and Keratin Protein range. I've been trialing the Argan oil one for the past month or so.

The first thing that caught me was the scent. Do ye know the orange flavour sweets from the Quality Street tin that you normally get for Christmas? Well these smell exactly like it. It is the nicest smelling shampoo & conditioner I own.  It lathers up incredibly well and my hair feels soft and it looks shiny after using it. My ends really do benefit from using the Argan oil conditioner afterwards and I generally leave that in for abut 5 minutes. It doesn't weigh my hair down and it has a bit of life in it. Normally my hair is as flat as anything.

At least once or twice a fortnight I pop in the Hask Argan oil intense deep conditioning hair treatment just to give my hair a bit of a treat.  Although I don't use heat on my hair all that often I still find it to be a bit dry at times. I really like these treatments. They costs about €2-3 in pennys and you get loads of use out of one packet.  If yer not fond of keeping packets lying around in the bathroom use an old, empty shampoo/conditioner bottle or buy an empty travel one and squirt it all in the bottle. Then you can use it whenever you like and you won't have to worry about it being open or some of it spilling out.

If I opt of of using the intense treatment, I will always use an oil while my hair is still damp just to add to the shine and to keep my hair feeling soft. I tend to switch them up and have 3-4 various oils from different brands but the Argan oil tube from Hask is one of my favourites. I have already gone through about 3 since I first tried it and I have bought 4 back-up bottles from Pennys just in case. They tend to sell out really quickly and I hate being without it for too long.

The Hask range of haircare products is available in Pennys and I think Primark have started to stock some, if not all, of their products too. They are really well priced and they smell SO GOOD! Definitely one of my go-to brands for haircare.

Twinsie Tuesday- Shimmer Swatch

Hey all,

Another one of Catrice's discontinued polishes. I bought this last year when it was on offer (half price I think) This is Catrice Blues Brothers Vol.II. Naturally Catrice have released several versions of this using the same name but this is my favourite of the bunch so far. It is a deep blue with a lighter blue shimmer. It sparkles lightly in the sun and it is one of the nicer blues that I own (China Glaze Blue years eve is number one at the moment)

As it is the older formula I needed 3 coats to get rid of any bald spots. Dry time was pretty much perfect and it was easier to control so very little clean-up was needed at the end. I added on a coat of Sally Hansen Insta-dri to make it good and glossy. Darker colours really pop on shorter nails I think.

Oh...my...GOLDNESS

Hey all,

I bought Catrice Oh My Goldness in May or June but this is my first time actually wearing it as a full manicure. I love gold nail polish and even though I debated buying it for a while I knew it would eventually end up in my stash. It is a gorgeous gold glitter in a clear base. It is packed with glitter though so it is opaque in 3 coats.

In certain lights this is a pure bright gold but as you can see in the above picture it takes on a deeper almost tarnished gold appearance. I made the mistake of putting this on in a room that was absolutely roasting hot so it bubbled so badly. You'd hardly notice it in real life as the glitter hides it well.  Oh My Goldness is a beautiful polish. It'd be lovely for Christmas. This cost €2.89 at the time but  I believe Catrice nail polish has gone up to €3 a bottle.

Twinsie Tuesday- Marching Orders

Hey all,

This week we were givien our marching orders by another Twinsie. Marisa was in charge of my manicure and she told me to go with a Dotticure which I was delighted about. I love dots in manicure so it was a fun one for me to do! I included an accent mosaic nail just to make it a bit different.

The base is Essence Rich and Pretty. The dots are from top to bottom: China Glaze Exotic Encounters, Sinful Colors Rise and Shine, Catrice Acid/dc, Born Pretty Store Holographic #12, Opi On stranger tides and LA Colors Color Craze (can't find the name on the bottle but it's a glitter) The accent nail is done with the same colours but the black outline is Essence Black is Back.

Precious Polish Cuti-CLUE-les

Hey all,

Precious polish is a new indie brand set up by Anita from Anita's Beauty Spot . This is the first Irish indie brand and she already has a few polish collections ready to go. Today I have one from the Beautiful Bloggers collection and it is named after my own blog,Cuti-CLUE-les.

Cuti-CLUE-les is an Azure blue with small lavender hex glitters.  It is opaque in 2 coats. Application was good but I took my time with it because this polish is packed to the brim with glitter. It dried quickly so I could easily build up the coats. I added on a coat of Essence gel look topcoat and it was still a tiny bit gritty after it had dried. A better gel topcoat would have solved this problem but I didn't have one to hand.

You can buy Precious polish HERE. Each bottle from this collection costs €8 plus shipping costs. The only really negative I have about the polish is the brush. It is not my favourite at all. I think the label is a bit to big for the bottle and it needs a bit of work. The size of the bottle (8ml, 10ml or whatever) should be written on the label or at least mentioned on the site itself. Other than that I think it's a great start for this new indie label. I have only tried one from the brand so far though so I cannot say what the rest of the range is like. If you are in to Indie nail polish then you should definitely check out Precious Polish and see what else Anita has to offer. You also have the option of custom making your own polish which is a great addition and a perfect, unique stocking filler for Christmas.

The express route to perfect feet with the Scholl Express Pedi

Hey all,

Today I finally have a review for the Scholl Express Pedi. I have been playing around with this for the last while and I think I have a fairly good grasp of it by now. It is designed to remove hard skin from your feet in a safe but effective manner. It's the same idea as a belt sander if you are doing home renovations except it's a lot gentler and smaller :P It uses 2 AA batteries (they come with the product) and you can buy replacement rollers once the one included has worn out.

As for how well it works I'd definitely say it is better than a lot of manual foot scrubbers that I have used. It got rid of most of the hard skin in one go and it is so easy to use. It really smoothed down my heels within about 30-40 seconds. The biggest problem I have when using the manual files is the pain I get in my arm from working on them but the express pedi does all of the work. The roller is easy to remove so you can wash it after every use and it's not too loud so you can watch t.v in peace while doing your pedicure. I am really into skin care and seeing as your feet take an awful battering each day it is so nice to be able to get them nice and soft without any hassle.

Once thing I would recommend getting is a good foot cream to really make the results long lasting and more apparent.I applied a nice layer of Straight Arrow Foot miracle to keep them moisturized.

The Scholl Express Pedi costs €49.99 in Boots. The replacement rollers are €15.99 for a pack of two.

Plum perfect

Hey all,

A quick manicure to show ye today. This is Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Plum luck. Plum Luck is a gorgeous deep purple with a nice glossy shine. Then I went with the Born Pretty Store stamp m64 and using another of the Complete Salon Manicure polishes, Mauve along, I stamped over the purple.

Pretty easy but I love the way it turned out. Mauve Along is a great stamping polish. It was so easy to work with and it is perfect over darker polishes.

It's Electrifying!

Hey all,

Even though I really dislike the Huger Games books I quite liked the nail polish released by China Glaze for the film. I have on 2 coats of China Glaze Riveting. It's a great summer polish with a decent shimmer. I like the colour but it doesn't really suit my skin-tone if I am honest. The gradient is China Glaze Electrify from the same collection. It's a red and gold glitter. It's nice on its own but I think it stands out more in a gradient.

I love the end result but it took a good while to get the glitter on. Waiting for it to dry was torturous!

Twinsie Tuesday- Cloud mani

Hey all,

My Twinsie Tuesday is a bit late today. Todays theme was Cloud mani. I already had a cloud manicure for last week and I really don't like the Cloud mani design that you normally see on blogs. Seeing as I was really short on time I thought I would keep it simple with a Cloud half moon manicure. It could have turned out better but this is the best I could do at the time :P

The base is Nails inc Motcomb street which is a super dark navy. It's opaque in 2 coats and its fairly easy to work with. The light blue for the clouds is also from Nails inc and it's called Bluebell. I used a dotting tool to make the little clouds.

Prismatic

Hey all,

China Glaze Polarized is a silver glitter with hints of green, yellow, pink and orange glitters mixed in with it. This is quite a thick polish and application was a pain. It didn't take too long to dry which is a blessing.  I have on 3 coats and it covered the nail fine.

Polarized is from the Prismatic Chroma glitters collection which was released in 2012. I did not take to this collection at all and I feel like China Glaze has gone down hill a bit in recent years. They release the odd gorgeous shade don't get me wrong but their collections always fall short for me. Yes this collection is different from what we have seen before but that doesn't mean it's good :P

Mauve-ing into November

Hey all,

I was exhausted last night and for got to post this so sorry for the delay! Sometimes it is so hard to find the energy to get everything done in one day :/

I have fallen behind in stamping (it gets boring for me after a while. I only have a handful of stamps) but here is one from a while back. The base is Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in 374 Mauve Along. This is 2 coats. Formula is great and I really like this shade. For the stamp I used the Born Pretty Store m64 stamp with OPI The spy who loved me.

I wish the red was a tiny bit darker but other than that I think it turned out pretty well. My nails are pretty short so the stamps fit perfectly on my fingers but my thumb always ends up half finished. Very annoying! It kind of ruins the overall effect for me.
