Twinsie Tuesday- Anniversary post

Hey all,

Today is the 2nd Anniversary of the Twinsie Tuesday group. We were assigned to other members and told we had to recreate that persons very first Twinsie Tuesday manicure. I was incredibly lucky to get Chelsea from Nailed- A Nail polish blog as my Twinsie. I'm one of the few international bloggers in the group so I don't have access to a lot of the polish that these lovely ladies have. The first post Chelsea every produced as part of the group was a swatch of A-England Tristam which just happens to be the only A-England polish I own! Lucky or what. You can check out Chelsea's post HERE

I honestly don't have a whole lot to say about this polish. It's not my favourite polish in the world. It's a bit more sparkly in person though, the camera kills the holographic particles a bit. Tristam is pretty much opaque in 2 coats and it dries quickly. Wear time is quite good, I get a good few days out of it without chips or tip-wear. One thing I did find out this week is that Tristam makes an amazing base for nail art which I will be showing to ye next week or the week after. I don't have a topcoat on in these pictures so the glossy shine you see is all down to Tristam. That's one part of this polish that I really like. If ye get a minute don't forget to check out Chelsea's blog and the other twinsies  posts linked down below.

Hask Keratin Protein review

Hey all,

A while back ye may remember I reviewed the Hask Argan oil Shampoo and Conditioner, well today I have the Hask Keratin protein Smoothing Shampoo and Conditioner review.

It comes in the same packaging as the Argan oil version except it has a silver lid. The smell is pretty much like a generic shampoo you'd get in any shop. It's nice but not as distinctive as the argan oil version but it's still nice. The shampoo lathers up nicely and my hair definitely feels nice and clean afterwards. The same goes for the conditioner. My hair is soft and I don't have any problems with tangles or anything like that. It's not a drying hair product which is may be due to the absence of alcohol in the list of ingredients.

The only trouble I really had with this range was the way it affected my scalp after a couple of uses. I have a skin condition which means my scalp can get really inflamed, start bleeding and it is quite painful. Even tying my hair up or using clips leaves me in agony. For people who don't have this problem I would recommend trying out the Hask Range of Shampoo and conditioners. They are affordable (you can get them in Pennys) and it's free from parabens, sulphates and alcohol to name but a few. Another important thing to mention is the fact that they are cruelty-free which I find is not all that common with haircare products. Unfortunately due to the effect is had on my scalp I am sticking to my Mane n Tail 2 in 1 Anti-Dandruff shampoo and conditioner for now.

Such a Pinple gradient

Hey all,

(Pinple- Pink purple mix. Yeh I struggled with the title)

This is the second of the Born Pretty Store plates I was sent and probably one of my favourites. If I had this at Christmas I doubt I would have bothered doing any of the nail art I ended up doing. I love these Christmas jumper style stamps but some of them cost a fortune, a bit silly when I'd only end up using it a couple of time a year (if that). Both of the stamps I used for this manicure come from the QA57 plate.

I started off with 2 coats of Sally Hansen Mauve along on my pinky and index fingers. For my middle and ring finger I went for Catrice Genius in a bottle, also 2 coats. For the reindeer stamp I used Mauve along. On the other nails I used both Barry M Retro polishes in Pink and purple. I love the gradient effect you get from mixing 2 polishes.

I have to say I couldn't get the snowflake stamps from this plate to work at all for me. They always looked messy or they didn't stamp properly which was a shame. At least the Christmassy ones worked (that's the only reason I really wanted this plate in fairness :P ) The plate costs $1.49 but they have a 15% code going on at the moment (type in BPS2014) so you can get thema fair bit cheaper if ye are wanting to pick them up.

Twinsie Tuesday- Nail care routine

Hey all,

A bit of a different Twinsie Tuesday theme for today. Instead of the usual manicure we are posting out Nail care routine. I keep mine fairly simple but it changes a lot depending on what products I actually have to hand. The basic items I have lying around are my Tweezerman nail clippers, a generic cuticle pusher and a tweezerman file. I'm not bothered about brands when it comes to nail files. I had the tweezerman just lying around I'm using it. It's grand, I don't think I'd go the extra step to buy another one from this brand just because it's a bit awkward having to order them in. I'd love to get a glass nail file seeing as they last far longer.
I was sent the Sally Hansen Products way back before Christmas and I've been using them ever since. I keep the Nailgrowth miracle for a basecoat when I do a pedicure. It stops the polish from staining and apparently it makes them grow a bit quicker. I can't say I have noticed much in terms of growth but they do seem stronger.  I keep the Miracle nail thickener for my pinky and middle finger on my right hand. They were awful thin and bendy. They have improved a whole lot since I started using the this as a basecoat before I do a manicure. This means I can grow them a bit longer and they won't chip or peel like they used to.

On the rest of my nails I use the Miracle cure. Seeing as I can be fairly hard on my nails, between nail polish and typing, it helps to have something extra underneath to keep them in good condition.  All of these can be used on their own and they make your nails look so glossy and amazing. I have worn them a couple of times on their own but I tend to keep them as base coats (I hate my nails so I like to keep them covered with polish when I leave the house)
When ever I push back my cuticles I use the OPI Avojuice in  Ginger lily. This smells amazing and it actually works wonders for keeping my cuticles looking healthy and moisturized. I finished this bottle this week and started using the OPI Avojuice in Jasmine but it hasn't been as effective as of yet. I'm hoping this is down to the bad weather.
I won't mention the handcream I'm using at the moment because I just started using it about a week ago and I'm not sure if it's worth the money yet. That's pretty much all I use at the moment. I know nail care products are very hit and miss and what works for me might not work for you so it's really difficult to find products that work well staight away. I have tried a heap of hyped up products and thought the people that recommended them must have been high because I didn't see the amazing changes they had stated would come from using this "holy grail" product. It's all trial and error.

In saying that, I'm still quite looking forward to seeing what the other ladies are using to keep their nails in good condition. They are in far better condition than my own fair hands so hopefully I'll pick up some hints from them.

Sir Stamps a lot

Hey all,

I got another little pack of Born Pretty Store items to review. This is from the QA27 plate. I have been stamping a lot lately but 9 times out of 10 it looks shite so I have to take it off again. It is a frustrating process! Thankfully this stamp was fairly easy to work with. I have on 2 coats of NYC Prince Street, a lovely shimmery purple with a great formula. I went with white for the stamp because the glow from Prince Street can wash out other colours and make the stamp look faded.

Two of the designs on this plate are fairly similar which is a shame as it's nice to have a variety of choices on each plate. For $2.99 it's not too bad though. You can often find these plates on sale for $0.99. There is also a discount code (BPS2014 for 15% off)  available at the moment so you can get a fair chunk taken off when you checkout with your order.

My 2013 Christmas manicure

Hey all,

This was a very glitter filled week :P  I thought I may as well finish it off with my Christmas 2013 manicure. I loved how this turned out and I kept it on for well over a week. It doesn't look as good on camera as it did in person (the camera highlights every single flaw!) but even with the flaws I loved it. Definitely one of my favourite Christmas manicures.

I started off with a white base. Then I striped off each section and added on China Glaze Running in Circles (emerald green glitter) and Barry M red glitter (ruby red glitter) I topped it off with a coat of Sally Hansen Insta dri. I'm pretty sure this is the last christmas themed manicure I have from last year.  I did not realise I had so many until I went through the pictures :P

A real gem

Hey all,

This is one of my most recent manicures. I am in love with the Complete Salon Manicure line from Sally Hansen. It is so handy to grab a polish and pop it on without having to worry about a basecoat or a topcoat. Most of the colours I have are opaque in 2 coats too. I haven't worn Jungle gem in a while and I am trying to branch out a bit and steer clear of the polishes I tend to lean towards all of the time. I put on 2 coats of Jungle gem and did a glitter accent using China Glaze Glitter all the way. This was another gift from Sharon and I was thrilled to get it! You have no idea how hard it is to get this polish. I spent weeks looking for it. It's like a kaleidoscope on your nails. Having so many different colours in one polish means it's great as an accent nail or as a glitter topper over any polish shade. I have on 2 coats. The bald spots you see in the picture were not noticeable at all in person.

I think I had this on for about 3 days before I chipped it opening something. Glitter all the way is amazing. It is a bit of a pain to build up as a full manicure but it'll be great for nail art and maybe a pedicure.

Twinsie Tuesday- Seasonal Gradient

Hey all,

Today's Twinsie Tuesday theme was to do a seasonal gradient. Seeing as it's still winter I went for a somewhat festive glitter gradient. I was still wearing Barry M Red glitter so I just added on a sliver glitter from Barry M.  You can see how much Red Glitter glows. It's really gorgeous especially if you have a good topcoat that will smooth out any lumps and bumps.

The only downside to this is the amount of glitter that ends up on your nails. It gets super thick and you definitely need a topcoat to make it last as long as possible.  Removal isn't too bad once you use the tinfoil method but it can get a bit messy.

As gold as it gets

Hey all,

This was my manicure the week before Christmas. I went with 2 coats of Sally Hansen Complete salon manicure in Right Said Fred. Then I topped it off with 1 coat of Essie luxe effects As gold as it gets  which was part of a Christmas Present from Sharon (Her blog is Behind Green Eyes- Check it out!) I topped it all off with a coat of Sally Hansen Insta-dri.

This looked amazing in real life. The gold is gorgeous and it catches the light beautifully. I wore this manicure for about 4 days without any chips. It's a great way to spice up a colour while still keeping it wearable for everyday.

Cleanse off mitt review

Hey all,

The Cleanse off mitt is a new product (the product is new but not the idea) on the Irish market. I was sent one there before Christmas and I've given it a fair go now. I have to say I am normally a face-wipe person. It's quick and easy and they are fairly cheap. The idea behind the cleanse off mitt is to remove make-up naturally using just the mitt and water. I have to say even after wiping my face with this I felt the need to go over it again with a cleanser . My skin did not feel clean at all. For me that kind of defeats the point of using this on it's own instead of face wipes. I still had to go over my skin again to get it feeling nice and fresh. Instead of going back for face wipes I put on a cleanser and used this to wipe it off. To be fair any old face cloth would do in that situation so there is no real need to go out of your way to get this one in particular.

I'm not saying this is a bad product at all.  It does claim that no cleanser is needed but me personally, I felt I had to add on a cleanser in order for my skin to really get that just cleaned feeling. It is inexpensive so it's worth a try at the very least.

The cleanse off mitt costs €5. You can find it online at Beautyemporium.ie .

Textured Chevrons

Hey all,

A fair while back Miss Budget Beauty was looking for guest posts and I offered to do one up for her. I love her blog and her beauty videos but her Vlogs are what really got me. Her son Milo is so fricking cute! She is straight talking and honest which I think is fairly rare on beauty reviews now a days. She is by far one of my favourites so I was delighted to think of a fun nail design to do for the post. I ended up going for a textured look seeing as it was fairly popular at the time.

I do know that the Chevron design is always pretty popular in the nail art world so I stuck with that. I started off with a base coat of Barry M Ripley road on my Index and pinky fingers and Barry M Kingsland Road on my middle and ring fingers. Once that was dry I cut two stripes of the striping tape and stuck that on the base of my nail. In the middle of that I painted on Barry M Atlantic road (blue) and Barry M Station  Road (yellow) I chose to freehand the tips using Zoya Beatrix.

This was a fun way of using the textured polishes I have. I love all of the colours together although now I do wish that Zoya Beatrix was a lighter orange. It seems a bit dark :/

Teal, we meet again!

Hey all,

When I had Barry M Teal on my nails a while back I couldn't help thinking that it would look good with some nail art over it (to really make the jewel look of the polish shine up even more) I used the Born Pretty Stamp m65 along with a white Born pretty store polish to add on these white stripes. Instead of using a topcoat I added on Catrice Have an ice day so it would have a tiny bit of sparkle to it.

I am so pleased with the way it turned out. The holographic glitters in Have an ice day are such a great addition to any manicure. One coat is more than enough. Removal is just like any other polish, the glitters don't have any effect on that whatsoever.

Twinsie Tuesday- Inspired by someone in your family

Hey all,

**As ye may know the GFC box has been removed from the blog. It no longer works so if ye want to keep up with new posts make sure ye follow on Bloglovin' link here **

Today's post was a toughie, I didn't want to leave anyone out :P  One of the main things that all of my family taught me was the importance of reading. I loved reading when I was young and they kept it going all these years. It's a lovely thing to have although I know a lot of people don't get the attraction. To be able to lose yourself in a book is just the best way to relax (although if I get too into it I would spend all night reading it until I'm finished) So for this manicure I went for a book design. My family bought me this book so it means a lot to me.

I finished Cecelia Ahern "How to Fall in love" the last day so I decided to recreate the cover for this theme. I love how simple it is and the gold just looks stunning. It was definitely one of her better books. The ending was good (a bad ending ruins a book for me) and it had a nice number of twists and turns. It's a great easy read if ye are looking for something that doesn't require a lot of thinking or guess work.

I kept the design a bit simple. I used Sinful Colors Endless Blue for the base ( 2 coats although it is a bit thick) and the gold is Catrice GoldFinger. I added on the Hard Candy matte-ly in love matte topcoat to finish it all off. I think the matte look suits it. The birds stand out far better. That's all there is to this weeks theme. The links to the other twinsies are down below is ye want to check out their manicures for this week.

Mistletoe and wine

Hey all,

I could have sworn that I had this posted way before Christmas but I've searched for it and I can't seem to come across it. This was a practice run for my Christmas manicure. I wanted to keep it simple so I could do it quickly before going anywhere.

I started off with 2 coats of GOSH Silver. Then using my dotting tools I added on the berries using OPI The spy who loved me. I used China Glaze glittering garland for the leaves.  I topped it all off with a coat of Sally Hansen Insta-dri.  I was pleased with the end result. I ended up going with a completely different manicure for Christmas.I'll be posting that as soon as I get the pictures from the camera.

Nail art favourites of 2013

Hey all,

A round up of my favourite nail art manicures from 2013. These are in no particular order until you get to number 1 which is by far my favourite manicure ever. It was one I debated over and I didn't think I would ever have the skill to even attempt so I'm delighted with it. All the links to the relevant posts are in the titles so check them out for information on the polishes used.

Let me know your favourite below! I'd love to know :)

Barry m Red glitter

Hey all,

One polish I did not get as much use out of this year as I had expected was Barry m Red glitter. It's a beautiful jam packed red glitter. It is opaque in 2 coats and once you add on a topcoat it looks so pretty. I tend to use it more so around Christmas both as a full manicure and in nail art. I only used it a handful of times but it's still a great glitter.

I've had this bottle for a good year or two now and it's still in great shape. It hasn't thickened at all. It's the only reg glitter I have come across in shops too so I'm delighted it has lasted so long.

Twinsie Tuesday- Favourite Colour combination

Hey all,

I don't really have a favourite colour combination so I just went for one that I like and haven't put on the blog before. I went for a striped design. The black is Essence Black is back and the white is from Born Pretty Store.  I didn't add on a topcoat as it tends to drag over nail art of any kind and it ruins the entire look.

Over the last week or two a few new people joined the Twinsie Tuesday group so be sure to check out the links below :)

Top polishes of 2013

Hey all,

I did the same kind of post last year and I could not believe how much my nail polish taste has changed over the year. Looking back on that post I can honestly say I didn't bother with half of those polishes this year. I favoured creme polishes with glitter and shimmer coming in second. I wore far more bright colours and my nails were longer. A lot has changed! I found this awful hard to put together I have to say. 2013 was not a great year for nail polish in my opinion. This is why the majority of my favourites are from previous years.  These are not really in any order, I just added them in as I went along.

10) Catrice Have an ice day

Have an ice day is a clear base with small holograhic glitters. Great coverage in one coat and the clear base means it looks great over any nail polish. Pictured over Lac Attack Spring Fling

A Neon pink with pink shimmer. Great formula, easy to apply. A very wearable neon . The shimmer makes it stand out from other neon polishes.

2 polishes from Lac Attacks Spring Fling collection. Spring Fling- Bright blue with neon green glitter. Loved wearing this. One of the most unique polishes I own.

Puddle Jumping a light grey creme with tiny indigo and blue flakes and a gorgeous purple/ blue hidden shimmer. My favourite grey polish. Wore this a fair lot during the year.

I struggled to find another nail polish to add when I came across my bottle of Insta-dri. I love this topcoat so much more than previous ones I have tried. It definitely deserves a mention. I use it quite a lot and it just made doing my nails so much easier.

Crappy picture but the shimmer in this blew me away. One of the few red nail polishes and OPI polishes I would buy the full size of without a doubt.

Emerald green glitter is not something I thought would call out to me but this is stunning. I love wearing it as a manicure but it is far better as a pedicure. Pictures do not do it any justice, you really need to try it to see it properly.

Love this polish! It is just the perfect blue. It applies beautifully and I love the way it looks on my nails. I can see myself finishing this bottle fairly quickly.

I always go to this when I have somewhere important to be. I don't know why but this is just my go-to for certain occasions. Great formula and it lasts fairly well.

A surprise favourite for me. I'm not a lover of purple nail polish so I was surprised at how much I wanted this nail polish. I really enjoy wearing it and have done quite a few times.

By far one of my most worn polishes. I had to stop myself putting this on all the time in case I got sick of it. Love the colour, the formula and the lasting power. Seriously one of the best nail polishes I have.

I'm sure there are a few more polishes I have forgotten to include but these stood out to me when I was going through my swatches.

Let me know yer favourite polish of 2013 below. It's so interesting to see how people differ when it comes to favourites. I read through a load of blogs listing their favourites this week and I didn't agree with them on any of the polishes! It's mental.
