My Halloween manicure

Hey all,

I think this is the first time I have ever done a Halloween manicure that I actually wore on both hands for Halloween.  I did a mix and match each nail just to make it a bit more interesting. I don't think this would work for normal everyday manicures but it's nice to push out the boat a bit.
I started off with 2 coats of China Glaze Riveting on my index and pinky finger. On the middle and ring finger I have on a plain white base.

For the witch hat I used Essence Black is back and OPI Goldeneye (just like the manicure from Wednesday).
The monster is done using Essence Black is back and China Glaze I'm With the Lifeguard (an excellent polish for the monster! It made him stand out and it looked like it was glowing)
The spider is just Essence Black is back and Kiss nail art striper in Silver. Pretty basic.
For the pumpkin I used NYC High line green and Essence black is back for his face.

It didn't really take all that long to do this manicure. I think using the right base colour makes it so much easier. I did the exact same design on my other hand and I love the way it turned out. Although I'm not a huge Halloween fan I must admit the nail designs are really interesting (even though people assume you bought stick on nails and refuse to even entertain the idea that you painted them yourself! I suppose that's a pretty nice compliment to get)

A Halloween gradient

Hey all,

A not so obvious Halloween manicure for today. I tried my least favourite nail art look. I like the overall look of it but I hate doing it. It's messy and rarely turns out the way I want it to. I based it on the basic colours of a punpkin. I have to say I do like the overall look but not enough to make it a weekly thing.

Using a make-up sponge I mixed Nails inc Atomic and OPI I just can't cope-acabana. It took a few layers to build up the colours making them opaque. It's probably better to layer them over a white base. It just makes life a whole lot easier. To make it all gel together I added on a matte topcoat.

Witch hat nail art

Hey all,

Keeping on with the Halloween theme I decided to try out some witches hats. You only need striping tape and a little paint brush for this manicure and you can pick whatever nail polish combination you like. I went with a textured polish, a creme and a glitter.

I started with 3 coats of Zoya Beatrix. I waited a good while to let that dry as it isn't the quickest drying polish in the world. Using 3 stripes of tape (two down in the shape of a triangle and one across marking the brim of her hat) I painted on Essence Black is back. Once that had dried I used a small paint brush and added on the buckle using OPI Goldeneye.

I love this manicure. It was a bit time consuming but that was mainly down to Zoya Beatrix taking so long to dry. I have tried it with other polishes and it didn't take half the time.

Twinsie Tuesday- halloween theme!

Hey all,

This weeks theme is a bit odd. I don't think I have ever been scared or creeped out by a nail design so I just went with a basic Halloween theme. I tried something different and I picked out an Alien design that I though would look pretty interesting.

I started off with 2 coats of Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Blue Streak. Once that had dried I used a dotting tool and added in Catrice Acid/ Dc for the head, a basic white polish for the eye-ball and Essence Black is back for the pupil. I topped it off with a coat of Essence Soft touch matte topcoat.

I'm really pleased with the way it turned out! It's a nice easy design to do too. I'm not a fan of Halloween but it's fun to do themed nail art for the occasion.

A whimsical accent

Hey all,

I found these pictures of a manicure I did a while back. I think these were for a Twinsie Tuesday post but I ended up changing them at the last minute. Not sure why but there you go. The teal polish is the aptly named "Teal" by Barry m. This is 3 coats with a matte topcoat. Unfortunately I banged one of my fingers off of the camera just before I took these pictures and I ended up with a gouge on my index finger.

The middle nails are made up of 1 coat of Barry m Cyan Blue followed by one coat of Whimsical nail polish by Pam in "Seuss". Again I topped this off with a matte topcoat. Pretty simple manicure but mixing two different polishes makes it stand out a bit more.

Seeing Stars

Hey all,

This was supposed to be a future Book Look manicure but it didn't come out the way I had envisioned. I hate when that happens! It all looks grand in your head but on the nail it looks like a huge mess. I did end up cutting some of the stars in half so they would fit on my nail. Sometimes having short nails is a pain when you are trying to add on some 3d bits.

I started off with 2 coats of Catrice Lucky in Lilac. I added a single star onto each nail. For the accent nail I put on a couple of pink ones and finished it off with a matte topcoat. I put on a clear topcoat on the other nails. I do think the matte look suits those 3d stars. It kills some of the shine  that the stars had so they are easier to distinguish.

Plumdog Millionaire

Hey all,

Easily one of my favourite polishes at the moment, Catrice Plumdog Millionaire is the most recent addition to my stash. I think it's one of the most unique textured polishes I have come across given the mix of glitters that sparkle beautifully on the nail. When I saw this in person I knew I would be getting it, The pictures don't do it justice (which is odd as my camera is usually pretty good with this shade of purple) but trust me, if you come across this polish you really need to get it.

I have on 3 coats of Plumdog Millionaire. I have to say I'm not keen on the name. It's not the best one they've come up with! The polish is amazing though. The end result isn't really gritty. I'd say it dries a bit bumpy but it's not hugely noticeable. The wear time is outstanding. I wore this for a week straight and only ended up with tipwear at the end. It's all the more amazing given the fact that I was incredibly hard on my nails that week. I was sure I'd have to change my nails after a day or two but it was perfect.

This is how plumdog millionaire looks with a topcaot. You can see the gorgeous blue and pink glitters more so here. You can see the glitters without a topcoat but they really stand out here, like a little galaxy on your nails. These pictures were taken at the end of the week, just before I took the polish off. See what I mean about the wear? I could easily wear them for another couple of days without a bother. Honestly one of the nicest polishes I have bought in a long while. I think it's pretty appropriate for Halloween too!

Twinsie Tuesday- Random polish combination

Hey all,

I just grabbed two polishes from my shelf for this post. If you start thinking too much about them you'll only end up picking something amazing! The whole point of this is the element of surprise. Thankfully I ended up with 2 polishes that I haven't shown on here for a while now so that worked out fairly well. I think they look decent together too which is a nice bonus! This had the potential to be a complete disaster given some of the polish colours I have lying around.

I started off with 2 coats of NYC High line green. This is a nice grass green with a great formula.  On top of that I have one coat of the original Essence Glorious Aquarius glitter topper. This is a blue glitter with some gold and holographic smaller glitters. I prefer matte glitter but over this shade of green I left it as it was. The formula on Glorious Aquarius was pretty good too. It has a lot of glitter mixed in with the base so you get nice even coverage with one coat.

The Book Look: Good Call: Reflections on Faith, Family, and Fowl by Jase Robertson nail art and book review!

Hey all,

The weeks long overdue book review is of Jase Robertson's book "Good Call: Reflections on Faith, Family and Fowl". You can buy the book on Amazon and The Book Depository. It is 241 pages long with a nice amount of pictures (always something I look for in a book like this).

I really enjoyed this book. I don't watch Duck Dynasty but from the few clips I've seen on Youtube, Jase is one of my favourites. He comes across as naturally funny and this really shows in the book. He's not trying to be funny, it just happens. Jase is fairly down to earth and you can see that his unbringing really had an impact on him. He speaks openly about how his fathers earlier problems encouraged him to take a different path and not be swayed to follow suit.

The only thing that got to me after a while was the constant mention of bible verses and quotes. It just felt like it was being pushed on me and I honestly skipped half of them. It's great that he feels so strongly about something but it felt like half of the book was made of of bible chatter. Jase is a very interesting person and it would have been nice to read more about him. It wore me down after a while and it did put a damper on my enjoyment of the book.

Overall I gave "Good Call: Reflections on Faith, Family and Fowl" by Jase Robertson 3 out of 5 stars. Jase is a very witty person but at points I felt as if the book was dragging on and I was genuinely bored in parts given the heavy use of bible quotes and the likes. It was a nice book though and I'm glad I read it.

For my nails I couldn't resist going with a camouflage theme! It's not a design that I have done before so it was a bit of a challenge. I started off with 2 coats of OPI On stranger tides. Then using a dotting tool I added on China Glaze Holly Day. Catrice Rambo no.5 and Sir Yes Sir! I love the way this turned out. I think the fact that my nails were short kept if from being too over the top.I think the different shades of green really look well together but I sure you could do it with any polish colour you want.

Polar White PRO teeth whitening pens review

Hey all,

Today's review is of the Polar White Pro dental teeth whitening pens. These have been on the market for a fair while but they now come in a duo pack so you can more for your money. I'v had this pack for the last few weeks and I finally have my review ready to go. Slow and steady wins the race ;)

The pens have a brush tip. You turns the bottom of the pen until a  blob of gel pops up. You only need a small drop and that'll do you. I applied it twice a day for week and a bit. You leave it on for 20 minutes and there is no need to rinse. The pen is designed to whiten teeth as well as dissolve stains.

My experience with the Polar white Pro pen was disappointing. It didn't whiten my teeth or dissolve any stains despite using it exactly as it says on the packet. It made my teeth a tiny bit sensitive which was expected. It wasn't bad now, just a tiny bit more noticeable than normal. I will be applying more gel to see if that has any more of an effect.I will say the packaging is great. They are so slim and easy to throw into your bag to take with you on the go. There is no fear that it will burst open and spill in your bag which is great. I'd give them top marks on packaging for sure.

I had high hopes for this pen after reading some glowing review over the past while. I've tried a few different whitening gels and toothpastes over the last few years and so far I haven't had any luck with them. I'm not aiming for a Hollywood smile by any means. I'd be just as happy getting rid of any stains and having them a touch whiter than normal.
I'l keep going with this until the tube is empty and if anything changes I'll update this post.

The Polar White PRO dental teeth whitening pens duo pack cost €24.99

Twinkle Twinkle Little Star

Hey all,

I have not worn blue/navy polish for a long while. I've had Colors by Llarowe Twinkle Twinkle Little Star in my stash for a while now and despite trying to put it on a few times I finally got to wear it properly last week. Apparently this is a dupe for some Essie polish that I hadn't heard of before. Whether it is or not now I haven't a clue to be honest. I don't have the other one and to be fair I don't see the hype. It's pretty but it's not so spectacular that you should spend over the odds for it.

I have on 2 coats of Twinkle Twinkle little Star. It could have done with a 3 coat as it is a crelly kind of formula. It's full of holographic glitters which sparkle nicely. They aren't overpowering at all. I did use a coat of Sally Hansen Insta-dri on top so it may have dulled the sparkle a bit. Honestly I think it's just a more subtle kind of sparkle anyway and I'd sooner have a topcoat to make it last. It's a lovely polish and one I'll more than likely get a lot of use out now that I know how nice it is.

Abstract nail art

Hey all,

Some nail art I did a while back and happened to really like the end result. This was another one od those "just playing around" types of manicures, If I'm watching something on youtube I end up practicing some nail looks just to see if I can do them and how they would look on my nails. As you can imagine they don't all work out but every now and then you get  a goodie. I picked out some polishes that I hadn't used for a while. I thought they would look decent enough together too which is kind of important :P

Here I have on 2 coats of Essence Nude it with an accent nail of Barry m Dragon fruit (3 coats). The yellow is Barry M Station Road and the Blue is Barry m Atlantic Road, both from the textured effects range. The silver is the Kiss Nail art paint striper which is amazing by the way. I don't think I  mention how handy this is often enough. I left it without a topcoat to let the textured effect shine through. In all honestly I doubt anyone would really notice it but I do so that's good enough for me.
