Twinsie Tuesday- Favourite discontinued polish

Hey all,

This weeks Twinsie Tueday post is our favourite discontinued polish. I have a few discontinued polish favourites and I have to say this one nearly slipped through the cracks. When I really thought about it, this really is my favourite polish. Sadly it is continued but there are dupes around now. At the time this was the most unique polish I had come across. I think I saw it on Karen from Lovely Girlie Bits initially and after that I knew I had to get it. I have used this in so many manicures since I got it (back in 2012)

Here I have on 2 coats of Gilded lily over 1 coat of Catrice Goldfinger. On my ring finger I added on a coat of Essence Hello Holo just to add to the sparkle. You can wear Gilded lily on it's own using 3-4 coats. It's worth the effort, it's such a beautiful gold. Removal can be annoying after a few days. I tend to stick with the tinfoil method so that cuts out a lot of hassle and the glitters don't get all over your fingers afterwards.

Essence Pure Soul

Hey all,

**Polish was provided for my honest review**

I was recently sent a few of the new Essence nail polishes along with a few other products. Of course the nail polishes were the first things I played with. It's been a fair while since I got my hands on an Essence nail polish so I was pretty excited to try them out,

This is 05 Pure Soul from the I <3 Trends release. Pure Soul is from the Nudes section (they also have a Pastel release). It is a very light pink with the most beautiful pink shimmer running through it. This becomes more visible when you are in the sun.As it is such a light shade it does need 3 coats to make it full opaque. I use thicker coats with this polish which helps even out the colour but it doesn't look thick on the nail. It's pretty easy to apply and it dries to a glossy finish.

I like this polish a lot. I'm not normally keen on 3 coat polishes but this is my kind of colour! The shimmer really makes this polish stand out.

Neon dotticure

Hey all,

This colour combination will be featuring on the blog quite a bit in the coming weeks. Rainbow nails are just my thing lately. I think they boast your mood and just brighten up a crappy day (or make a good day even better). The only thing I would change is the base colour due to the formula. This is China Glaze Flip Flop fantasy. I love the colour, it's insanely bright, but it needs 4 coats at least to cover any bald spots. I have heard rumours that China Glaze re-released this with a better formula but I have no idea whether this is true or not.

The colours I dotted on my tips are: OPI I just can't copeacabana (yellow), Zoya Paz (orange) Catrice Run Forest Run (green), Sinful Colors Sugar rush (blue) and  Nails Inc St James (red)

I topped it off with Sally Hansen Miracle Gel topcoat. I have done another mani very similar to this but with 2-3 different polishes. I love this design, it's so striking with the bright, neon colours. I think keeping the dotticure just at the tips makes the individual colours stand out nicely even against such a bright base.

Zoya Storm

Hey all,

A quick swatch for today's post. This is Zoya Storm from the Ornate collection released in 2012. I know a lot of people rave about Colors by Llarowe calling it the perfect "nights sky" polish but honestly I think Zoya Storm is better. I have on 2 coats. Zoya polishes are generally 3 coaters which is a tad annoying.  The formula is slightly thin but they cover well on the second coat.

Storm is black with fine holographic glitters. You can see that it is jam packed with glitter and they spread out perfectly on the nail. This is a beautiful polish on it's own but especially as a base for nail art (my favourite being the The Last Hero nail art from the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett)

Twinsie Tuesday- Cherry nail art

Hey all,

Pinterest inspired was the prompt we were given for this weeks Twinsie Tuesday post. I use pinterest a lot for pretty much everything but I don't tend to use it for nail inspiration. Google images is just easier to navigate and it can be more accurate in my opinion. I did happen upon some Cherry nail art a while back and I thought I would give it a go. I did end up changing pretty much everything to suit my own tastes colour wise.

I started with 3 coats of Barry m Pink Flamingo. This used to be a favourite of  mine but now I wouldn't really class it as anything special. It definitely needs 3 coats, sometimes even a forth would be necessary. The colour is nice but it's not something that really calls out to me anymore.
Once that was dry I dotted on Sally Hansen Complete Salon manicure in Right Said Fred for the cherries. Using a thin brush I added on the stalk with Catrice Run Forest Run. I dotted a little white polish in the corner to give the Cherries a shiny look.

A fairly simple nail design to do but it looks good which is all that matters.  Don't forget to check out the other Twinsie's links below:

Spider web accent

Hey all,

I've been sticking to the same set of polishes lately but this is a manicure I wore a while back and I loved the colours together, I love blue nail polish but I find that I'm really self-conscious when I have it on. I think it's just too bright for me even though it's probably on the polish colours I buy the most. For that reason I tend to use it more for nail art than as a full manicure on its own.

This is 2 coats of Barry m Cyan Blue. This has an incredible formula but it will stain your nails and cuticles, It is a nightmare to get off so I don't reach for it too often. I decided to add on an accent nail so I have on 2 coats of Zoya paz on my ring finger. Once that was dry I striped off the nail and added on a coat of Cyan Blue on top.

The one thing that bugged me about this manicure is the silver glitters that you can see on the accent nail. The striping tape I use always leaves behind those silver bits and it is really hard to cover up. Next time I will just stick to the striped accent nail. I never knew that orange and blue would work so well together!

I decided to add on some polka dots using Paz. I think I prefer it without the dots. Paz is a crelly formula so it is sheer. Once you add it over a darker colour it shows some of the colour through the orange making it look darker than it is. You can see how bright Paz should be on my accent nail.

Zoinks!

Hey all,

Nicole by OPI Khloe had a little lam lam is one of my all time favourite polishes. The colour is perfect, the formula is amazing and it wears so well on my nails. I thought it would make a great base for Red Carpet Lacquer "Zoinks!". This is a clear based polish with green  and red glitters.

I have on 2 easy coats of Khloe had a little lam lam. Once that was dry I added on one coat of Zoinks! Although it does look nice glossy I decided to go with a matte topper this time. It makes the glitter far more apparent and I like that look a lot.

Smooth Criminal

Hey all,

A quick NOTW post for today. The sun was out in full force so I picked out one of the few holographic polishes that I own. This is Colors by Llarowe Smooth Criminal. I love holographic polishes but they are pretty expensive! I would like to get the Orly holo's that have been popping up on blogs recently but they do need a fair few coats to be opaque  which is a tad off-putting.

Back to Smooth Criminal though. This is an easy 2 coater. The formula is very easy to work with although it is a tad bit thick. You just have to wipe the brush off the bottle before you paint your nail and it'll be fine. Dry time is spot on too. This is a great polish and such a lovely colour. I know I featured this in my 2014 nail polish favourites and I'm happy to say that it's still a favourite.

Twinsie Tuesday- Somewhere over the rainbow

Hey all,

We had a last minute change for this weeks Twinsie Tuesday theme. Seeing as today is St Patricks Day we decided to do some Paddy's Day themed nails. I am the only Irish person in the group so it's nice to have an Irish theme.

I had planned on doing little Leprechaun nails but I thought a bright, colourful rainbow with a pot of gold at the end would be more fun to do. Seeing as I made this up as I went along I started off drawing the rainbow using the Barry m Nail art pen in White. This allowed me to get the stripes roughly the same width and on the same level so the rainbow looked straight.

Once I had a rough sketch I filled in the gaps with my polish. The red is Nails inc St James, Orange is Zoya Paz, Yellow is OPI I just can't cope-acabana, Green is Catrice Run Forest Run and the Blue is Sinful Colors Sugar Rush. My pot is Orly Liquid Vinyl. I added OPI Goldeneye on the top for the gold. I topped the whole thing off with Essence Matte about you.

I love this. It's so bright and it wasn't all that awkward to do. I like that it's not your typical St Patricks Day manicure full of green polish and Shamrocks (like yesterdays post).

Shamrock Shake

Hey all,

Today's manicure is a bit of a fail. It's my first go at Shamrocks so it was a bit of a struggle. I ended up using dotting tools to help speed up the whole process. I felt like free-handing them would take too long this time around. My actual manicure for St Patricks Day is completely different so I'll pop that up tomorrow.

Seeing as green is the main colour associated with St Patrick's Day I went for an all green manicure. I don't tend to do Paddy's day manicures but I thought I may as well give it a go this year.
I started with a base of China Glaze I'm with the lifeguard. This is a neon green with a nice bit of shimmer in it. I needed 3 coats. Once that was dry I dotted on China Glaze Holly Day on all the nails abar the ring finger. I used China Glaze Running in Circles here although it's not coming off as glittery in the pictures as it is in real life.

I did topcoat this with a matte topcoat but it toned down the colour quite a bit and I didn't like it as much. The pictures here are taken before I added on the topcoat.

NOTD- Holographic overload

Hey all,

Since getting the new Sally Hansen Spring/Summer collection I've only worn polishes from that collection. I love the Sally Hansen line but its always good to test out the wear time on any new polish collection. Thankfully they've all been amazing, especially Nightwatch which is the polish I have on here.

Seeing as the weather is starting to lighten up a bit I thought Nightwatch needed some holographic sparkle to really make it come alive in the sun. I have on 2 coats of Nightwatch. On my ring finger I have Barry m Starlight (a limited edition polish from Christmas 2014) with a coat of Sally Hansen Miracle Gel topcoat. On the rest of my nails I have one coat of Catrice Have an ice day. I didn't bother with a topcoat on these nails in case it dulled the holographic sparkle. Even though Starlight, also a holographic, wasn't affected by the topcoat it is a completely different type of glitter so I didn't want to chance it. Thankfully the Complete Salon manicure polishes wear incredibly well on their own so I wasn't worried about it chipping.

I really liked the overall effect. Starlight is too thick to use as a complete manicure. It took long enough to get the glitter placement on the accent nails right never mind doing a whole manicure with it. It makes a pretty interesting accent nail though so it will get a good amount of use.

Twinsie Tuesday- Soft & Feminine nails

Hey all,

This weeks Twinsie Tuesday post called for a Soft & Feminine manicure. I don't really care for gradients but it was the only thing that came to mind. I didn't want to go for the typical light pink polish so i picked out 2 of my nude polishes. For the base I have on 3 coats of the Sally Hansen Miracle gel polish in Birthday suit. I love the colour of this polish but I wish it was more opaque,
Once that was dry I sponged on the Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Mauve Along. The gradient effect if noticeable but it's not too overpowering.

This combination didn't suit my skin tone in the slightest. It made my nails look really dirty. To try and overcome this I added on 2 coats of Essie's As gold as it gets. The gold sparkle really did make my nails look more polished. I added on a coat of the Sally Hansen Miracle gel topcoat to finish it all off. A topcoat really helps blend the two gradient polishes so it looks more natural.

Teal-ing away the layers

Hey all,

It's been a while since I did a design like this. It takes a little bit of time to do this using striping tape but the result is pretty impressive. My base is 3 coats of Barry m Teal. This is a beautiful shimmer but once you add a matte topcoat on top over it you are left with that dark teal. Once that was dry I striped off the nail and added on Barry m Mint. This is a really sheer polish. It takes a good 3-4 coats for this to be opaque. I  only needed 2 thick coats to get it opaque here. Again I left this to dry for a decent amount of time before adding on a coat of the Hard Candy Mattely in love topcoat. If you put on a matte topcoat too soon it can cause the colours to drag which ruins the overall look of the manicure.

Lately I've not been in the mood for anything but plain nails. It's nice to break out some of the nail art tools every once in a while though.

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Spring/ Summer 2015 review part 2

Hey all,

**Products were provided for my honest review**

I'm back with part 2 of my Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Spring/ Summer review. The first part featured the brighter shades from the collections. If you missed that post you can read it here. Part 2 focuses on the darker polishes. I found that I had a few similar polishes in my collection for this side of the review so I have swatches of them below. Again all of these swatches are without a topcoat.

Enchante (331)

This polish caught my eye straight off the bat. It's a lovely warm rosey pink. Like other polishes in this colour family, Enchante dries darker on the nail than it shows in the bottle. The swatches are coming off a bit light, it's about a shade darker than this. Formula wise it's just like the rest in this release. I have on 2 coats and it is perfect. You could almost get away with one thick coat if you wanted to. I'm thinking that this is a re-release from a quick search online but correct me if I'm wrong on that.

Dupes wise I don't think I have any polishes that are spot on but I do have one that is very, very similar.  Plum's the word is from the same family but it is much darker. Lancome Rose The is brighter and has more of an orange tone to it rather than rose. The Essence polish is very similar in my opinion. There are subtle differences but you'd be hard pressed to tell one from the other at a distance.

Belle of the ball (641)

Belle of the ball is a deep purple with purple shimmer. There is a smattering of red in there too. This is a proper vampy polish with a little twist thanks to the shimmer. Just like Enchante you could almost get away with one thick coat. I always do two and that's what I have on in the swatch. This is a re-release from the 2013 Go Baroque collection.

The only similar polish I have in my collection is OPI Every month is oktoberfest. They look quite alike but the red shimmers are far more prominent in the OPI.  I will say the difference isn't as apparent in person as it shows up in the swatch below. Both polishes have quite a dark base so the shimmers only truly come out in the sun or in certain lighting. I could easily justify owning both as they are beautiful polishes. The formula on Belle of the ball is the better of the two.

Nightwatch (674)

Last but not least we have Nightwatch, a beautiful darkened navy.  Again this is a re-release having featured in the 2013 Designer series Prabal Gurung collection. Nightwatch has a great formula. I have on 2 easy coats. I love the fact that there are 2 incredibly dark polishes in this collection. As much as I enjoy bright polishes for Spring/ Summer I think there is always room for something a bit different.

I only have a couple of navy blues, none of which turned out to be dupes. The lancome is more blue and doesn't have that glossy/ jelly like look. Slick, from the Sally Hansen Patent gloss collection is in the same family but you can tell that you are wearing a navy polish at all times. Nightwatch tends to look almost black from afar.

So that's the entire collection. As I mentioned in part 1 this is available in Ireland this month and you can find them in selected pharmacies, department stores and grocery stores for €8.95 each.
