Twinsie Tuesday- Technique you love

Hey all

This is the last Twinsie Tuesday post until September! The group is taking a month off as a little holiday from prompts. It'll mean we'll be back with new, exciting posts once Autumn rolls around again. It'll be nice to catch up on other posts but I'll miss the weekly challenge I have to say.

Polishes used:
Sally Hansen Velvet texture in Velveteen
Models Own Hedonist
China Glaze Flip Flop Fantasy
China Glaze I'm with the lifeguard

I started with 2 coats of Velveteen. Using the one of the smaller dotting tools I own I simple added on the colours in a circle. I didn't topcoat it as I really like the way the neons pop over the matte black textured base. Before I took it off I put on a glossy topcoat and it did look pretty cool. Neons over a black base will always be a good choice in fairness. It's so eye-catching.

Check out the other Twinsie posts and see what techniques they picked out for this post in the links below.

Stained glass nails

Hey all

Bit of a random design today. This is an old manicure (June 2014!) that I always meant to post but I just skipped it in  favour of newer manicures. I love how short my nails are here. They aren't too far off my current nail length but they are in better shape. The weather is wreaking havoc with my hands! I actually gave the Burt's Bees Cuticle balm a go and it seemed to keep my cuticles in good condition so I might pick up a tin and see how it fairs out.

The polishes I used for this design:

OPI I just can't cope-acabana
OPI Kiss me I'm Brazillian
Barry m Blueberry ice cream
Barry m Greenberry
Sally Hansen Tahitian Sunset
Nail the bytch Lick-or-ish bytch
Ciate Purple Sherbert
Black for the outline

I really want to do this again. I would say you are better off using really opaque polishes otherwise it gets a bit lumpy looking in parts. Greenberry in particular was a hard one to get flat on my nails. It's a lovely colour but the formula seems to be getting thicker and harder to use the older it gets.

Essence 43 Girl's Best Friend

Hey all

I heard that some of the Essence the Gel nail polishes are being discontinued so I went off in search of Blue Bubble di Blue. Unfortunately it was gone by the time I got in but I picked up a couple of the other gel polishes while I was there.

Girl's Best Friend was not a polish I had on my list. In the swatches I'd seen when they first came out everyone seemed to layer put it on over their bare nail and it looked awful. It did catch my eye on the stand though so I decided to give it a go. It's such a unique glitter.Basically it is a clear base with silver glitter and small golden glitters as well. I could not get the golden glow on camera but it looks amazing on the nail. Sometimes it picks up gold and blue/purple. It's so interesting.

I thought it  might look nice over a nude base and it does. I have one coat of Girl's Best Friend over 2 coats of Sally Hansen Miracle gel in Creme de la Creme. I actually can't believe how much I like this glitter. You really have to see it in person! I included a picture where you can kind of see the golden glow at the side of my nail but it is ten times better in real life.

The formula is great. I only needed one coat on each nail and I got a nice even layer of the silver glitters. From the bottle shot you can see how beautiful it is. I'm thinking this will look unreal over a gold or silver polish at Christmas. Actually thinking about it, it would look great over a navy or a red polish too. I'm so glad I gave this one a chance. Swatches do not do it any justice.

Emporio Armani Diamonds Violet

Hey all

**Product was provided for my honest review**

Emporio Armani Diamonds Violet is the latest perfume in the Diamonds range. I haven't tried any of the other versions so I was excited to give this one a go.
The packaging is nice, not too in your face but it is eye-catching. The bottle design is nice and simple- it looks like a diamond and it has a slight pinky- purple tinge to it. In fairness packaging is pretty irrelevant when it comes to perfume as they stay in the box to avoid them evaporating.

I would definitely class this as a night-time/ winter perfume. My taste in perfume is very weather dependent. Mixing a strong perfume with a sunny or humid day means headaches and nausea until I shower it off. It's not pleasant.

Violet is described as a "Floriental Fruity-Gourmand" with top notes of passion fruit, litchi and ripe raspberry. Other notes include damascena rose essence, lily of the valley, praline accord, vanilla and patchouli. Personally I don't get any of the fruity scents from this. I can pick up on the patchouli but that's about it.

On me this comes off quite heavy intially. Once it dries down (maybe after an hour or so) it softens up a bit and it's not as strong. It's not the longest lasting perfume in the world. I put it on around 12 and by 5 I could barely smell it anymore.  You'd want to spray it on your clothes to help with the lasting power I would say.  It's a nice perfume but it's not my favourite. I'll have to try it again once winter comes around to see if my opinion will change on it but for now I wouldn't run out and buy it without trying it first. Give it a spray, walk around for a while and then you'll get a proper feel for it. Everyone is different and it definitely reacts differently on everyone. It's not worth spending €38 on something you might hate the smell of just because it someone else loved it or it smelled amazing on them. Always try it on yourself first to see how your body chemistry reacts with it.

Twinsie Tuesday- Matte/Gloss combo

Hey all,

A handy enough theme for this weeks Twinsie Tuesday. A simple mix of shiny and matte polishes. I started off with 2 coats of Barry m Berry Ice Cream. It needed a third but seeing as I was covering it up I left it at 2. Once that was completely dry I striped off all of my nails. I added Barry m Denim to my pinky and index fingers. This is a matte blue with silver shimmer so it seemed like an obvious choice for this theme.

On my middle and ring fingers I added Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Electra-Cute. Before taking the tape off on these nails I added a coat of Essence Satin matt topcoat in Matt about you!

The matte/gloss difference was hard to see. I think the striping tape kind of dulled the shine of Berry Ice cream. Next time I'll add a topcoat before the striping tape so different finishes would be more apparent. I love the way it looks though.

The Discworld #3: Equal Rites

Hey all

Book number 3 in the Discworld series is Equal Rites. This book features Granny Weatherwax (one of the Witches) and Eskarina Smith. Granny Weatherwax reappears in a few other Discworld novels later on in the series alongside the other Witches.

For this manicure I went with one of earlier scenes in the book where Granny Weatherwax is looking out of the window waiting for Eskarina's mind to return to her own body. It sounds weird but if you have read/ are reading  the book you'll understand.

The polishes I used:

Essence Iced Latte (Granny and Eagle face)
Essence Nude it (Granny's features)
Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in SGT Preppy  (Granny's mouth)
Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Enchante (Granny's mouth)
Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Greige (Granny's hat)
Orly Liquid Vinyl (Granny's hat , outline of window frame and pinky finger)
OPI Skull and Glossbones (Granny's hair)
OPI Goldeneye (Granny's Hat)
Barry m Mushroom (Outline Eagle and Window Frame)
Sinful Colors Sugar Rush (Sky)
White (Clouds and Granny's eyes)
NYC Lexington Yellow (Eagle Eyes  and beak)
Colors by Llarowe Twinkle Twinkle little Star (Background of Eagle and over pinky finger)

I topped it off with the Sally Hansen Miracle Gel topcoat.

This was a fun one to do. Equal Rites wasn't my absolute favourite book in the series but I enjoyed reading it. Granny Weatherwax is very witty but I didn't really take to Eskarina. She doesn't appear as a main character in any other book in the series thankfully,

Twinsie Tuesday- Squirtle

Hey all

This weeks Twinsie Tuesday challenge is a bit different. We were told to revist a theme that we may have missed and to recreate that challenge! I went back to September 11th 2012 and picked the copycat mani. Basically you redo another Twinsies post. Seeing as it wasn't picked for me I had a root through their Instagram pages and picked Lisa's (The Polish Playground) Turtle nails to recreate. I changed mine slightly but I kept on with the Turtle theme with a Squirtle inspired manicure.

The polishes I used :

NYC in a minute in Blue Sky - For Squirtle's face
Barry m Mushroom- For the turtle shell
China Glaze Kalahari Kiss- To outline the shell
Max Factor Glossfinity in Red Passion-For Squirtle's eyes and mouth
Sally Hansen Patent Gloss in Vinyl- To outline the eyes, nose and mouth
White- For the eyes

I topped it off with Essence the gel nails topcoat. It's been a while since I done a pokemon manicure. I love the way this turned out! Squirtle was always one of my favourites.

Drip Drop

Hey all

I've been wearing a lot of black polish lately but I find I get bored with it on my nails. I used to love black nail polish on its own. It suits other people but on me it's just too plain. I tend to team it up with brighter colours and this really works. The black really makes the bright colour pop and it makes for a really simple manicure that looks harder than it really was. Win-win!

I started with 2 coats of Essence Effect nail polish in The Black Cat. This is a latex matt polish. I have to say the more I use it the more I dislike it. I don't like the finish it has, it's not matte but it's not glossy. It's weird. The formula is ok though it takes a bit longer to dry. The "matte" effect is pretty quick but your nails are easily smudged for a good few minutes after.

I painted half of each nail with Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Moheato. I freehanded this as you won't see the line at the end so it makes no difference if it's perfectly straight or a bit dodgy. Once that was dry I used one of the bigger dotting tools and added 3 dots of the opposite colour to each side. I added a glossy topcoat to blend the colours together a bit more.

I like the effect it has. It took a bit of practice to get the right sized dotting tool for my nails. Definitely something I would do again and I might try it with 3 colours next time and see how that works out.

Despicable me Minions, TMNT, Spongebob and Toy Story Mash up!

Hey all

Another mani mash-up for today. This started out as a minion only manicure but I wanted to include a few of the characters that I either haven't tried before or I thought would go well with together! Some of you will have seen my Minion nails but if not I have them linked here:one with Gru and a giggly Minion, the other features both the Yellow and the Purple Minion.  I've also done  the Alien from Toy Story before and to be honest I didn't plan on doing him here but he fit on my pinky finger so it worked :P My Spongebob is definitely an improvement from my last attempt. The newbie here is the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle.

All the polishes I used are listed below:

Catrice Lucky in Lilac
Catrice Plum Play with me
Catrice Acid.Dc
Sally Hansen Patent Gloss Vinyl
Kiss Nail art Striper in Silver
Essence Love is in the air
Sally Hansen Pink Cadillaquer
Sally Hansen Shock Wave
NYC Highline Green
NYC Blue Sky

I did do the design on both hands which didn't take as long as you'd expect. The only bad thing about repeating the design on both nails is that people assume they are fake nails. I hear it a lot so it doesn't bother me as much. I've been told that I bought my nails in Penny's because they saw similar ones in there. They have tried to actually take my supposed  "fake" nails off to prove a point! My nails are clearly not perfect which should be a big sign that they aren't fake stick on ones. The fact that they wore at the tips and chipped is also a bit of a giveaway that they have paint on them.

I ended up keeping these on for just over a week. I actually loved them so I didn't want to take them off but I had to give my nails a break from being polished so often. Like I mentioned in my Twinsie Tuesday post I had to cut my nails short after taking my polish off. Hopefully they won't peel as much now that they are shorter.

Snow much Fun

Hey all

Snow much fun is one of those polishes you can really wear all year round, despite the name. It's a lovely bright shade of blue and the white glitters really make it pop on the nail. It's a bit sheer (I tend to layer it over Sinful Colors Sugar Rush) and the glitters can be hard to fish out (especially the snowflakes!) but it's not the worst.

I used the Essence Satin Matt topper in Matt about you! which covered the glitters nicely giving it a nice even finish.  I would love a polish just like this but without the bigger white glitters, It would look so pretty with just the smaller glitters in my opinion. Again these swatches are from a while ago, my nails haven't grown that much in the space of a couple of days!

Twinsie Tuesday- Neon

Hey all

Another nail fail. I tried to do a swirly design and it worked out in my head but on my nails it's a bit of a mess. I cut my nails super short to try and get rid of the peeling that's been going on. Most of my nails are peeling pretty badly and I don't know why so they might be short for a while.

I started with 2 coats of OPI I Just can't cope-acabana (I don't have a neon yellow so this had to do the job) Then I randomly added on:

Zoya Paz
China Glaze I'm With the Lifeguard
China Glaze Love's a Beach
China Glaze Flip Flop Fantasy
Models Own Hedonist

Ugh! I'm not having a good nail art week at all. Most of my recent manicures have smudged, dented, dragged and ended up looking like crap. This was the best one I managed to do which says a lot!! I'm sure the other Twinsies have far better looking nails, click on their links below to see how they approached this weeks theme....

Bella Nuit

Hey all,

You can probably tell that this is an older manicure :P This manicure is from way back in November. I actually thought I had put this up but apparently I missed it. It was one of my favourite combinations and I wore it for a good week (possibly a bit over a week!)

I have on 2 coats of Lancome Nuit D'Azur, a beautiful navy creme. It looks slightly dusty in the photo's but that's all down to the topper which is Essence Nail art Twins Bella. Bella is a clear base with small black hexs and holographic glitter.

Unfortunatly the holographic really threw off my camera making the pictures slightly blurry but I really like this combination so I wanted to show ye, I didn't bother with a topcoat in case it would dull the holographic glitters but it didn't really need one.

The Book Look: Nails, Nails, Nails!

Hey all

**Book was provided for my honest review**

Along with the Sally Hansen Summer nail polish I was also sent Nails, Nails, Nails! 25 Creative DIY Nail art Projects by Madeline Poole. It has pretty much all you need to know about the basics  from Nail art tools to the anatomy of your nail. It's 127 pages long and it has step by step picture tutorials to help you through the design.

The designs included are varied and will suit all nail shapes really. You will need a few tools before you begin which are listed in the book. All in all it's a really nice beginners guide to nail art. I decided to recreate the Triple Eclipse design featured in the book.

For this look all you need is nail polish. You can pick any colours that you like. I went with 2 of the polishes from the Essence the gel nail polish range and a Sally Hansen Miracle gel polish because the brush tip is rounded meaning you'll get the curved look with very little effort.  The polishes I used are:

Essence Love is in the air
Sally Hansen Pink Cadillaquer
Essence Play with my mint

It didn't take long to do this look seeing as you only need the the polishes. It's an easy way to decorate your nails without making too much of an effort.
