April Showers - AWDR

Hey all

April Showers was the theme for this weeks A Weekly Dose of Rainbows challenge. I started with 2 coats of Catrice 114 The Sky so Fly. Once that was dry I added some grass to the bottom with Barry m Greenberry. For the clouds I used Essence 53 Rock my World!. Finally I used Sally Hansen Miracle Gel in 300 Electra-cute with OPI I just can't cope-acabana.

I thought about adding rain but it did not look good! I tried it on one nail and it just looked like I threw on some random polka dots. It definitely needs something to fill up the gaps but I have no idea what to add in so I left it at that.

Twinsie Tuesday- Monochrome nails

Hey all,

This week we are shifting away from the bright Spring colours and going with a monochrome design instead. It's nice to take a break from all the bright polishes for a while. I've kind of worn myself out of the spring colours lately so I'm looking forward to wearing some darker polishes for a while.

I used a plain white polish with Sally Hansen Patent gloss in Vinyl for my black polish. I kept one plain nail just for laziness sake. I couldn't think of anything else to add on that nail and I don't have a white glitter so it stayed nice and plain.

Bubble nails

Hey all

For the bubble technique I started off with an all white base. I picked out Essence the gel nail polish in 27 Don't be shy (lime green) and 31 Electriiiiiic ( cobalt blue) for the deisgn as they compliment each other pretty well.

I dotted the colours onto my nail using a dotting tool. I tried to use cotton buds dipped in acetone to get the bubble effect in the centre of each dot but it wasn't working. I resorted to using a brush dipped in nail polish remover and swirled around in the dots to get a similar effect. It's not my favourite manicure to say the least! I love the colours but this technique really doesn't suit me. It was fun to try though!

Twinsie Tuesday- Tulips

Hey all,

Today we have another Twinsie Tuesday post with a pretty typical spring theme of Tulips. I really like the end result of this one. It was pretty simple to do and it looks so pretty on the nail. I added on an accent nail and I think it was the right way to go about it. It made the other nails pop.

I started with 2 coats of Essence I <3 Trends 01 So lucky. Once that was dry I used the polish brish to draw on two half circle like shapes on both sides of my nail. I used Essence the gel nail polish in  12 Mandarine Bay (coral/orange) and 21 A Whisper of Spring (lilac) for this. I then outlined each nail using Giorgio Armani 301 Gio on the coral nails and Essence 61 1001 Party Night on the lilac nail. The coral nails are coming across way brighter on camera. In reality they are more toned down and match the purple nicely.

Essence 61 1001 Party Nights (Spring 2016)

Hey all

**Polish was provided for review**

I actually don't get the name of this polish at all but Essence 1001 Party nights is another release from their Spring 2016 line. Again it's a darker polish but unlike Need your Love you can definitely tell this is a purple polish on the nails.

1001 Party Nights has a great formula. Opaque in 2 easy coats. I had no trouble with bald spots or dragging. Like the others in this range is dried nice and glossy and it didn't stain upon removal which is good. I'm glad it's not a deep dark purple as they can sometimes look dreary in the nice bright weather. This colour is the perfect inbetween shade.

Rainbow stripes

Hey all,

Rainbow stripes was the prompt for A Weekly Dose of Rainbows, the nail art group that posts on Instagram once a week. I love striped nail art anyway so this was a fun one for me. I picked out a mix of darker and lighter colours just to mix it up.

I used SoSu Poison Apple as my base. I then added a stripe of Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure 372 Greige, Essence the gel nail polish 24 Indian Summer, Catrice 114 The Sky so Fly and Sally Hansen Miracle Gel 310 Shock Wave. I went with thinner lines so all of the colours would stand out on their own.

Twinsie Tuesday- Spring Gradient

Hey all

This week for Twinsie Tuesday we are doing a gradient + stamping design. If you read my posts last week you would know that I lost my stamping supplies so I just went with the gradient with some glitter on top.

I started off with Essence Colour and Care 02 I care for you. Once that was dry I dabbed on Essence I <3 Trends the nudes 07 Hope for love. I kept this mainly on the middle up to the tips. I topped it all off with Essence the gel nail polish 43 Girls Best Friend.

Instead of a glossy topcoat I used Essence Gummy topcoat which helped the glitter colours stand out more. I like it but I think it would look  nicer on shorter nails. My nails aren't that long but it just didn't look right at the length they are now. Personal preference really.

Essence 58 Need your love (Spring 2016)

Hey all,

**Product was provided for review**

Essence the gel nail polish 58 Need your love is surprisingly from their Spring Releases. I have 2 polishes from this line and they are both dark, not what you'd normally see this time of year. I have seen the rest of the releases online and they are beautiful bright colours so I'll definitely be picking some of them up once they show up in Pennys.

The formula is thicker but easy to work with. In the bottle it's a red-brown but on the nail it basically looks black which is unfortunate. Normally Essence are pretty good at matching the polish to the colour on the lid of the bottle but this was a bit of a fail in my opinion, colour wise. 2 easy coats to cover the nail and that gloss you see is without a topcoat! It's insanely good!

Ziaja face masks review!

Hey all,

**Product was provided for review**

I was sent out a set of the Ziaja face masks sachets recently. Instead of breaking them up into seperate posts I thought I would combine them into one comprehensive post so you cold compare them yourselves and see which ones you'd like to try yourselves.

Ziaja Sensitive face mask:
A nice face mask. It felt nice while it was on and my skin felt a bit nicer but nothing special.

Ziaja Olive Leaf regenerating mask:
I have tried the Olive leaf mask before and it's nice but I didn't notice any great difference in my skin afterwards. You apply a generous layer for 10-15 minutes and then either rub the excess in or wipe it off. Nice but I'm not crazy about it.

Ziaja Goats Milk face mask:
A thicker mask that with a pleasant smell. This wasn't really suited to my skin but I gave to someone with incredibly dry skin. They liked it but they weren't overwhelmed with the results. Maybe give it a go if you have "regular" dry skin. You might see a bigger difference.

Ziaja Cocoa butter:
Very nice gel like mask. Easy to apply and it has a lovely smell. Works well on dry skin and had some good results after washing it off, The skin seemed softer and smoother than before and the effects lasted longer than most other masks.

Ziaja Rose butter rejuvinating mask with hyaluronic acid:

This was probably my favourite mask. It smells amazing and feels almost like a gel formula. I applied a good bit and left it on overnight. You can either run the excess into your skin or wipe it off with a cotton pad but I tend to leave them on. In the morning my skin felt so much better. It was softer and felt more even and the dry patches were reduced quite a bit. After one use I was really impressed with it. One I will definitely buy again and again.

Rainbow pastel nails

Hey all

Another rainbow post this week. This time I did cheat a little on the A weekly dose of rainbows theme. It was supposed to be rainbow stamping but I've lost my stamper! Instead I went with a rainbow mix using a tissue to dab on the colours. It turned out so well, I am really pleased with it.

I started with a coat of Sally Hansen Complete Salon manicure in 375 SGT Preppy. Once that was dry I dabbed on Sally Hansen Miracle gel in 300 Electra-cute, NYC Blue Sky and Orly Colour blast Grape neon. The only downside is you need to use a good thick topcoat to get a smooth finish. It's worth it though!

Twinsie Tuesday- Glitter placement

Hey all,

Glitter placement was the theme for this weeks manicure. I picked out Whimsical nail polish by Pam in Seuss. I know from experience that this doesn't have a good formula so I layered it over Barry m Cyan blue.

I was planning on leaving it at that by Seuss looked terrible. All the glitter looked chunky and messy. I grabbed some glitter hexs in a redish colours and randomly dotted them on my nails using a dotting tool. I covered it with the Essence gummy touch matt effect topcoat. This helped cover the mess and the glitter showed up more. Not my favourite manicure! I like the red and blue combination but that Seuss polish is not good.

Essence 02 I care for you

Hey all

**Polish was provided for review**

A few days before getting this in the post I actually found them on a stand in pennys. Once I read "Colour and Care" and "made with natural ingredients" I put them straight back on the shelf thinking they would be sheer 3 coaters that wouldn't even out and look crap on the nails. After trying this one out, 02 I care you you,  I am going back to get some of the others in this line. The formula is incredible! This is 2 coats but you could get away with one. No one is more shocked than I am at that. It's amazing.

I apply two coats of I care for you without a top or basecoat. The formula is amazing as I have already mentioned.  It's slightly thinner so wipe off your brush before applying or it will flood your nails. The one thing that may deter people is the brush. It's really wide meaning you have to apply it with a light hand. This is great for those with wide nail beds but it may be a pain for those with narrow nails. I can cover my thumb in one coat without pressing down too hard on the brush to fan the bristles out. That's how wide it is!

The colour is a pretty pinky nude. It looks great on my pale skin. I haven't seen too many reviews in English but the ones I have rave about the formula. They are more expensive at €2.50 for a 10ml bottle but they are worth it. I've only seen 4 colours on my stand: 01 Take a Break, 02 I care for you, 03 Happy nails and 04 lean on me. There was no space for 05 You made my day so I'm not sure if that's just my stand or that it's not available here. They are well worth checking out.

Mermaid scales

Hey all,

For A Weekly Dose of rainbows this week we were doing a Rainbow Mermaid inspired manicure. I went with some scales in some bright colours. I thought about sticking with 3 colours but it really looks best with a whole load of different shades mixed together.

I started out by painting the outline using Max Factor Red passion. I had planned on going over this with a glittery red topper but it really didn't need it. I then filled in all the little gaps using the polishes listed below. I topped it off with the Catrice Have an ice day topper to smooth it all out and make it sparkle. It turned out really well but it was so time consuming!

Polishes used:
Max Factor Red Passion (red)
China Glaze Love's a beach (pink)
OPI I just can't cope-acabana (yellow)
Essence the gel nail polish in 52 Amazed by you (plum purple)
Essence Colour and Care 02 I care for you (light pink)
Sally Hansen Miracle Gel 240 B-Girl (light blue)
Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure 547 Peach of Cake (peach)
Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure 375 SGT Preppy (pale lilac/pink)
Catrice Million Styles topcoat in Have an Ice Day (scattered holographic)

Twinsie Tuesday- Parrot

Hey all,

Back again for another Twinsie Tuesday post. This week the theme was "birds". I struggled with this one so I just went with a parrot theme. I picked out some polishes that matched the colours of a parrot and using a thin brush I striped them onto the nail,

At first it was a bit of a fail but once I added on a coat of the Essence Merry Berry topcoat in I <3 My golden pumps it looked a lot better. The polishes I used were:

Essence the gel nail polish in 11 4 Ever young (red), 31 Electriiiiiic (cobalt blue), 38 Love is in the air (yellow) and 40 Play with my mint (blue)
Madam Glam Mint cocktail (lime green)

I like it. It reminds me of something tie-dyed just a bit more linear. It was quite bright in person but the gold topper helped to tone it down a bit.

Essence I heart Trends 29 Pink Lagoon

Hey all

**Product was provided for review**

Essence have released a bunch of new prodcts for spring and I have a few of their new polishes to show ye. First up is the Essence I <3 Trends the Jellys polish in 29 Pink Lagoon. This one is deceptive as it looks like a raspberry red in the bottle but it shows up more pink on the nail.

As this is a jelly it's sheer but not awful. I have on 3 coats to make it fully opaque. The first coat is streaky but it builds up easily. It's a typical jelly in formula and appearance. I'm not a lover of jelly polishes but I have to say it looks very pretty on 3 coats. It has a nice glossy finish too which is nice.

If you are a fan of jelly polishes then this is a good affordable polish to pick up. I believe they cost around €2.29 and you can find them easily enough in Pennys.
