Mermaid scales

Hey all,

For A Weekly Dose of rainbows this week we were doing a Rainbow Mermaid inspired manicure. I went with some scales in some bright colours. I thought about sticking with 3 colours but it really looks best with a whole load of different shades mixed together.

I started out by painting the outline using Max Factor Red passion. I had planned on going over this with a glittery red topper but it really didn't need it. I then filled in all the little gaps using the polishes listed below. I topped it off with the Catrice Have an ice day topper to smooth it all out and make it sparkle. It turned out really well but it was so time consuming!

Polishes used:
Max Factor Red Passion (red)
China Glaze Love's a beach (pink)
OPI I just can't cope-acabana (yellow)
Essence the gel nail polish in 52 Amazed by you (plum purple)
Essence Colour and Care 02 I care for you (light pink)
Sally Hansen Miracle Gel 240 B-Girl (light blue)
Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure 547 Peach of Cake (peach)
Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure 375 SGT Preppy (pale lilac/pink)
Catrice Million Styles topcoat in Have an Ice Day (scattered holographic)

Twinsie Tuesday- Parrot

Hey all,

Back again for another Twinsie Tuesday post. This week the theme was "birds". I struggled with this one so I just went with a parrot theme. I picked out some polishes that matched the colours of a parrot and using a thin brush I striped them onto the nail,

At first it was a bit of a fail but once I added on a coat of the Essence Merry Berry topcoat in I <3 My golden pumps it looked a lot better. The polishes I used were:

Essence the gel nail polish in 11 4 Ever young (red), 31 Electriiiiiic (cobalt blue), 38 Love is in the air (yellow) and 40 Play with my mint (blue)
Madam Glam Mint cocktail (lime green)

I like it. It reminds me of something tie-dyed just a bit more linear. It was quite bright in person but the gold topper helped to tone it down a bit.

Essence I heart Trends 29 Pink Lagoon

Hey all

**Product was provided for review**

Essence have released a bunch of new prodcts for spring and I have a few of their new polishes to show ye. First up is the Essence I <3 Trends the Jellys polish in 29 Pink Lagoon. This one is deceptive as it looks like a raspberry red in the bottle but it shows up more pink on the nail.

As this is a jelly it's sheer but not awful. I have on 3 coats to make it fully opaque. The first coat is streaky but it builds up easily. It's a typical jelly in formula and appearance. I'm not a lover of jelly polishes but I have to say it looks very pretty on 3 coats. It has a nice glossy finish too which is nice.

If you are a fan of jelly polishes then this is a good affordable polish to pick up. I believe they cost around €2.29 and you can find them easily enough in Pennys.

Rainbow Easter Bunnies

Hey all,

Some easter themed nails today. My rainbow bunny manicure is part of the A Weekly Dose of Rainbows post on instagram. I'm really happy with the way these turned out. I love the colours together and it's just bright enough to let the shapes of the bunnies show through.

I alternated each nail with Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in 671 Moheato and Barry m Blueberry ice cream. Then I outlined and filled in the shape of the bunny using OPI I just can't cope-acabana (yellow) or OPI Kiss me I'm Brazillian (pink). One those were dry I added on the ears using the basecolour from the opposite nail. I thought this would tie them together a bit more.

Organic Surge skincare review

Hey all

**Products were sent for review**

A couple of weeks ago I was sent some Organic surge products to try out.

The first product is the Organic Surge Extra Care Ultra-light oil control lotion. This costs around €24 for a 50ml bottle. I thought this would be good for my combination skin but a couple of hours after applying it my face felt a bit greasy, especially around my nose. It wasn't bad but I didn't enjoy the feeling. I will say after applying it my face felt really soft and smooth. It sinks in very quickly with a really pleasant scent which doesn't linger long after applying it. i wouldn't buy it personally as it doesn't suit my skin.

Next up was the Organic Surge Daily Care reviving eye gel. I couldn't find a price for this.
It was pretty nice. It didn't affect my eyes which can be sensitive to certain products so that was a plus. This could be down to the lack of a scent in this gel. I didn't notice it doing anything special under my eyes although at times I thought it made my dark circles a bit more prominent some days which isn't pretty. It was easy to apply, a little goes a long way. I'll definitely use it up but I'm not sure if I would purchase it just yet.

Another product from the daily care was the Organic surge Perfecting Face polish. This costs around €9.I like this. It's nice and creamy with a lovely lemon scent. It has a good amount of ground olive stone particles in it to scrub your skin without it feeling too harsh. While my skin wasn't transformed after using it, it helped to smooth it out a bit and take away the bumpy/ flaky feeling. It's a 75ml tube but it really does go a long way. I wouldn't use it daily as I think it would be too much for my skin but once or twice a week is perfect.

Finally I have the Organic Surge Daily Care super intensive moisturiser. This costs around €17.
I don't have overly dry/mature skin so I gave this to someone who does to try out. I have to say I'm pretty impressed with the results from this one. It's one of the few moisturisers that actually made a difference to incredible dry, patchy skin. It's not 100% cleared up but it drastically improved the condition of their skin. I'm sure they will buy this cream once this tub is empty.

Twinsie Tueday- Inspired by Jewellery

Hey all,

This weeks theme was inspired by jewellery. I don't wear a lot of jewellery but the bits I do wear all have a special meaning to them. I don't buy it unless there's a reason for it. I think it makes them all the more special if they have a story to them. They don't have to be expensive, just items that remind me of something when I look at them.

For this manicure I was inspired by one of my oldest rings. My claddagh ring is pretty important to me and I tend to wear it the most. It's a simple ring but it means a lot to me.

I started off painting my nails with Sally Hansen Miracle Gel in 170 Pink Cadillaquer. I used 2 coats to cover my super short nails (damn peeling is ruining them!)

Once that was dry I painted on a little heart on my ring finger using Essence Valentines Who cares? 03 Crew love is true love. I added on some hands around the heart and a crown above using Catrice Goldfinger. I then outlined it using Sally Hansen Patent Gloss in Vinyl. I topped it off with Sally Hansen 3D gel shine topcoat which did make it run a bit but it's grand.

Every month is Oktoberfest + Essece Bella

Hey all

This was a recent NOTW that I wore. I thought this would be more interesting that it actually turned out to be.  I've been dying to wear OPI Every month is Oktoberfest for the last few weeks but I've only gotten around to it. I put on 2 coats which covered my nails perfectly. Seeing as the sun was out I decided to add a coat of Essence Bella, a clear based hologrpahic silver glitter with black hexs.

The glitter topcoat actually dulled the shimmer in the OPI polish. It ended up looking like a plain black base with glitter on top which wasn't the effect I was going for! The only time you could see the shimmer was in the pictures.

It's ok but not a combination I would do again. I did get a week of wear out of it without chipping or tipwear which was great.

Twinsie Tuesday- Favourite Colour

Hey all,

(I forgot to post this on Tuesday so here it is!)

I don't really have a favourite colour. I like a lot of polish colours but the one that's been catching my eye a lot lately is green. One of the greens that I own and use a lot is China Glaze Running in Circles. I didn't want to take of my St Patricks Day manicure so I'm showing ye an old swatch :)

There are a few green polishes on my wishlist at the moment but most of them are indie and really hard to get shipped over here. Plus they stain horrifically which I'm not a fan of (for obvious reasons) but they look so pretty in the swatches. Maybe it's worth the staining?!

Anyway, I love this manicure and I am definitely going to re-do it. Yellow and green and just amazing together!

Happy St Patricks Day!

Hey all,

My current NOTD! I had to do a St Patrick's Day manicure seeing as I am Irish so I went with a pretty sparkly one this year.

I went with a holographic base as we are having an unusually sunny week so I had to make the most of it, I used 2 coats of Color Club On Cloud nine. Then using a mix of Essence polishes I added on a rainbow and a little pot of gold on either side.

For the rainbow I used:

Essence the gel nail polish in: 38 Love is in the Air, 27 Don't be Shy, 40 Play with my mint.
Sally Hansen Miracle gel 300 Electra Cute

The pot is Sally Hansen Patent gloss in 710 Vinyl . I then mixed OPI Golden Eye and Barry m Starlight to make the gold extra sparkly. I topped these nails with Sally Hansen 3D gel topcoat but left the rest without to keep the holographic strong.

I really like them! I thought about keeping just one nail as an accent but feck it, the more the merrier!

Chevron nail- AWDR

Hey all

I really like Chevron nail art. I know there are stickers you can buy that make it a lot easier to do the design on your nails but I haven't tried them. They look handy but they don't always work so it's a bit hit and miss.

I just wanted the design on the tips of my nails so I started with a white base. Once that was dry I used a double sided nail art pen to draw on the 3 chevron colours and then fill them in.  I forgot to shake the pen first so the mustard colour came out green on my index finger. Lesson learned for the next time I use them!

I went with the Sally hansen gel shine topcoat to blend the colours together and smooth the whole nail art. It turned out pretty well even with the random mix of colours

Twinsie Tuesday- City inspired

Hey all

I definitely winged this manicure as I went along. I just couldn't settle on one idea! I don't find the city very inspiring in general so it was hard to think of something to do that would come across in nail art form.

I started with 2 coats of Zoya Storm. Then using a mix of bright colours I painted on the little buildings. I didn't go too detailed as my nails are pretty short and it would look too messy and overcrowded.  The polishes I used for the buildings:

Essence the gel nail polish 24 Indian Summer (peachy orange)
Essence the gel nail polish 27 Don't be shy (lime green)
Essence the gel nail polish 38 Love is in the air (pastel yellow) for the stars
Essence the gel nail polish 40 Play with my mint
Barry m Cyan Blue
Essence Nude Glam 05 Toffee to go

I topped it off with Sally Hansen 3D Gel shine topcoat to give it a nice glossy finish.

Catrice Lucky in Lilac

Hey all,

I haven't worn Catrice Lucky in Lilac in the longest time. It's true that the bigger your polish collection is the harder it is to find time to wear polishes you've hard for years. Even though I love pretty much all the polishes I have (colourwise) I do like to branch out and find new polishes with different finishes, shades and even textures. This means that older polishes really do get a bit lost in the system.

I couldn't pick a polish to wear last week so I just picked out one of my Catrice polishes. I used to buy these all the time but they are harder to find now and they don't really keep an up-to-date stand which is disappointing.

The formula was pretty good. I used two coats here and it covered the nail perfectly. It's looking a bit rough in the pictures as I had it on for 2-3 days at this point. It wore amazingly over the week. Little tipwear and no chips until day 5. I think this was mainly due to my nails peeling though. I used the SoSu quick dry topcoat and the Sally Hansen nail growth miracle as my basecoat.

Essence dry-marbled manicure

Hey all,

Ok I finally found a style of marbling that I like to do! For this weeks A Weekly Dose of Rainbows post we are told to do a dry marble. I attempted to do one using cling film and that was a disaster. In the end I blobbed the polishes on my nails are mixed them together using a thin dotting tool and it worked out pretty well!

Before I started I used Essence the gel nail polish in 51 Miss Captain. Then I added blobs of 31 Electriiiiiic and 38 Love is in the air from the same range. Once it was dry I topped it off with Sally Hansen 3D gel topcoat to smoother it all out.

Love is in the Air is seriously one of the best yellow polishes. It looks great with all kinds of colours and it's so bright but pastel at the same time. Really pleased with the way this manicure turned out.

Twinsie Tuesday- Watermarble

Hey all,

I missed last weeks Twinsie Tuesday but I'm back for this weeeks theme which is to do some kind of marbling. I ended up doing a simple looking watermarble. This was before I tried a dry marble (up on Thursday) which I much prefer doing! Anyway, back to today's post......

For this manicure I started off applying a coat of Sally Hansen Patent Gloss in Chic to my nail.
Once that was dry I quickly added the polishes to the water , dragged them together a little bit and popped in my nails. Like my last water marble this bubbled quite a bit on my nails.

The navy I used is Sally Hansen Complete Salon manicure in 674 Nightwatch. I love these 2 polishes together and I think the concept was great but my execution on the nails messed it up. I just can't do water-marbles. I don't like the way they look either which is another story but I can't get them to turn out well on my nails.

I know the others in the group are better at this technique so check out those links below to see what they came up with.
